Lately, I've been (almost) obsessed with acrylic poured paintings, particularly "dirty pours." YouTube and Pinterest are full of videos showing how to do them - all I am doing today is reporting on my science experiment this weekend.
There are a variety of pouring mediums and silicone types being used and it has been challenging to figure out what works best for me. After identifying 8 (!) pouring mediums and 3 solutions to allow cells of color to develop, I decided to do a controlled test. With a chart and everything.
I used the same 3 colors + white in all samples, and only added silicone to the pink, yellow, and blue. I'll include a photo of my chart so you can see all results.
My pouring mediums included Floetrol, Easy Flow, Sax Platinum Medium, liquitex pouring medium, GAC 800, Mod Podge, and Elmer's Glue All (not school glue). I used WD-40 silicone, a L'Oréal product with dimethecone as the 2nd ingredient, and 3-n-1 silicone. The L'Oréal was a big fail, so you can ignore that. When I was almost completely done I read something about dish soap, so I also tried that with Easy Flow only.
Three of my favorites were with easy flow - first is the one with WD-40 silicone. Easy flow is much smoother than floetrol, which tends to lump. Click on the pics for more info.
