Here's another of my photographs of the Fall season at Billy Frank Jr./ Nisqually Wildlife Preserve. Located between Olympia and Tacoma. Walking the trails in the filtered light I had is strangely mystical. The boardwalks and forest paths feel like they’re leading you somewhere older than the preserve itself — like you’re stepping through layers of seasons that have been repeating long before you ever showed up. The colors glow, the air cools against your face, and the quiet settles in a way that makes you feel both grounded and a little enchanted.

Fall is coming to the Billy Frank Jr./ Nisqually Wildlife Preserve. The trail is lined with tall, thick‑trunked trees, their branches stretching overhead and holding the last of the season’s color. Fallen leaves cover the path in a dense layer — mostly warm oranges and browns — so the ground feels soft and textured.
Light filters through the canopy in narrow beams, hitting patches of the trail and the surrounding brush. It’s not dramatic light, just steady and directional, enough to highlight the shapes of the trees and the curve of the path. The trunks themselves are dark and heavy, giving the whole corridor a sense of structure.
The setting feels enclosed but not tight — more like a natural hallway formed by the trees. You can see the path bending gently ahead, framed by the vertical lines of the forest. It’s a simple, honest slice of the preserve: autumn color, filtered light, and the quiet geometry of the woods.
Tech notes: Camera; Nikon D610, f3.2, 1/30 sec, ISO – 100, 50mm lens. I use both a polarizer and a UA1 filter to keep the colors true.

Captured at the Nisqually Wildlife Preserve, this photograph evokes the gentle surrender of fall—where light filters through bare branches, and every step feels like a whispered invitation to pause. A weathered wooden railing guides the eye, hinting at passage and presence—human touch within wild stillness. The composition balance's structure and softness, making it a striking piece for spaces that crave warmth, introspection, and connection to nature’s quieter moments. A thoughtful gift for nature lovers, hikers, or seekers of serenity.

When fall comes to the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, the whole landscape starts to shift. The trees drop most of their leaves, leaving tall moss‑covered trunks that let more sunlight reach the trail. The path turns into damp gravel with a fresh layer of fallen leaves — just enough to show the season changing.
Walking along the boardwalk on the gravel path, the air picks up that cool edge you get every autumn in the Olympia and Tacoma area. The light comes in lower and warmer, even as the temperatures drop. It’s the time of year when getting outside feels easy again — no summer heat, no winter storms, just a quiet transition you can enjoy step by step.
Fall at Nisqually is steady and familiar, and it’s worth being out there to see it.

This very fine Black and White photograph of the “Seattle to Bremerton Ferry” was taken on a chilly, breezy, early spring day. This gallery-quality art photograph, captures the ferry "Tilikum" as it makes its way between Seattle and Bremerton, WA. The image is black and white, emphasizing dramatic contrasts and details. The ferry, with its multiple decks and antennas, slices through the water, leaving a trailing wake behind.
In the background, snow-capped mountains rise majestically under a textured sky, full of swirling clouds. The shoreline, dotted with trees and buildings, adds depth to the scene, blending human engineering with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The interplay of light and shadow gives the photograph a dynamic and compelling look. Using Gallery Quality Materials.

Winslow WA. Winslow has a quieter kind of creativity — the sort that sneaks up on you while you’re walking around the village and notice a mural tucked between two shops, or a pottery studio just off the main street. The galleries and shops feel less like destinations and more like extensions of the people who run them, and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art sits right at the edge of it all, inviting you in without any fuss. It’s the kind of place where art feels woven into daily life rather than staged, and you pick up its vibe just by wandering.
