A new selection of work by Juniper Briggs is now on view at Pryor Fine Art.
This body of work emerged during a year of significant change for Briggs and her family, including a recent move to Arizona. It has been a period of transition and adjustment, and Briggs is particularly proud of the work that has come from it.
Perhaps fittingly, change is also embedded in the way she paints. Working intuitively through a process of addition and omission, Briggs allows each composition to evolve — beginning with one idea and sometimes arriving somewhere entirely different. Layers of color, texture, expressive line, figures, animals, and recurring symbols build a narrative as the work develops. The dove, which appears throughout her practice, represents peace and protection for the artist.
Briggs is also drawn to what we carry beneath the surface: the complexity of thought and emotion that can exist behind an outward sense of calm.
