What better place to hold an engagement photo session than an island with goats and a movie set?

It was such a treat getting to photograph Chris and Josie!

OMERDA (2022)

When a person speaks the sound, “Om,” there are four parts. The “Ah,” followed by “Ooh,” then “Mm,” and finally, silence.
Try it out yourself!

While Om represents the universe in its entirety, Omerda ties this concept to the modern knowledge of the four states of mind: Pure Consciousness, the Waking state, the Dream state, and the Deep Sleep state. On an island scaped in inspiration of the symbol of Om, these paintings depict landscapes representing the four parts of Om and its correlating states of mind.

I: Pure Consciousness State

Representing the “Ah” of Om, The Pure Consciousness State is “big picture.” Its distance shows no specific details that can be easily recognized, but the viewer is fully aware of the immensity of the subject. The intention is to encapsulate the feeling of mindful meditation, where emotions and thoughts are present, but viewed from a distance as an unbiased spectator.

II: The Waking State

Representing the “Ooh” of Om, the Waking state is where life usually takes place. It is the material world that we know. Our body and minds are active. Progress is made, time ticks on, and the world grows. People and ideas come and go without stopping to think about it.
While humanity does exist within this state more than any, I chose to focus on Nature’s part in the Waking state, while leaving hints of human footprints along the way.

III: The Dream State

Representing the “Mm” of Om, the Dream State of consciousness is where the mind processes unresolved emotions, desires, and experiences from the waking state. Traces of humanity’s footprint are found amongst the ruins, while most colors lie within the sky, symbolizing opportunity, growth, and truth.

IV: The Deep Sleep State

Representing the silence that takes place after the decrescendo of the “Mm” of om, comes the Deep Sleep State. No emotions, desire, or materiality is present, only a peaceful and empty land. The simplicity of the landscape will invoke the feeling of Zen, where nothing exists outside of the mind and oneness is achieved. Mountains reflect a cloudy and looming sky like that of storm clouds hanging over a desert.
A crescent moon with red petrified vines sits partially covered in the sand, representing life and death. The stones on the left also mimic this shape.
A bonsai tree, representing time, stands still in a dormant state.

I'm so incredibly happy to finally be able to show this series in it's whole. Thank you everyone who has helped along the way! 💜

For this doodle I was thinking vaguely of flesh and bones before they were organized into human form, before the possibility of judgement of what is considered beautiful, ugly, skinny, fat, etc.
Just flesh and bones.

"Where, my love, does the beauty inside of a tree reside,
made up of atoms, identical and colorless,
where the light of the sun merely vibrates in waves toward our eyes,
striking tissues and moving along nerves like a telephone wire, to their endings, like telephones?
I do not know.
There is no actual color in the atoms of which the tree is composed, or in those vibrations.
Shape, size, color, touch and the like are simply the names we call our sensations,
and no amount of study can ever bring the notion of beauty to the tree..."
Inspired by 's Correspondence (a fiction), an incredible poetic album.
Do yourself a favor and give it a listen if you haven't already 🙂

WOW, this took forever. Here's the story. 🌕
In March of last year, I watched a documentary on the incredible artist Yayoi Kusama, who would sit for hours on end filling pages with dots. I started this drawing with the same intention, to fill an entire page with nothing but dots.
Within 10 minutes, I started realizing that shapes were forming and how much freedom there was to create directly from the subconscious with pointillism. Deciding to follow what I saw, I continued for many hours until I filled most of the outside of the circle with what shapes my brain made from the dots.
Not gonna lie, the center circle scared me. Something important had to go inside of it and I had NO idea what to put. So it stayed empty for a year.
A few weeks ago, I picked it back up with a full year of new knowledge. I had been practicing creating waves (you'll see in my next post), and decided on the lighthouse and moon to be the centerpiece.
After ~60 hours of just doing dots, it's finally finished.
I am SO happy with the results, and find it incredibly fulfilling to complete something that has sat staring at me, incomplete, for over a year.
🌸If you read this far, thank you.🙂🌸
(PS. I'm making prints of this! If you're interested, send me a DM!)
