M. Francine Jennings, Arts Integration Specialist

M. Francine Jennings, Arts Integration Specialist I am a performer, teaching artist, and educator who uses the arts to teach, train, motivate and inspire!!!! Also, arts integration is so much fun!!!!

As an arts integration specialist, I use creative movement/dance, music, drama, poetry, storytelling, and visual arts to deliver content. Research demonstrates that use of the arts promotes emotional engagement, collaboration, inclusivity, critical thinking, and retention of information. Whether I'm teaching kids about paragraphs, teachers about leadership, or executives about teambuilding, the arts remain central to my approach!!!!

Dance — and physical activity — should have the same status in schools as math, science and language. Psst: it may even help raise test scores, says Sir Ken Robinson.

Art forms continue to evolve as people's needs evolve. The need for the human soul to create brings about fluidity in thinking which ultimately brings about change---all of this brings about transformation into new art forms!

In order to get to know my students, I ask them to tell me something about themselves as a group using only their bodies. This group, in Conway, SC used a moving tableau (a frozen picture with one moving component) to explain how they were supportive, collaborative, helpful, willing to hold up their ends of the bargain and the lady in front was making small circular movements, representing the synergy that results when the group works together. This is a wonderful way to use arts integration as a diagnostic tool. I could quickly see that these students were more than moderately comfortable using creative movement as a critical thinking tool!
