September birth month flower | Wild Blue Aster • sold

I started this series back in January with the idea that people might want to collect the birth month flowers of their kids or family members… pairing three, four, or even five together.

I love that idea, and I also really love the simplicity of these flowers compared to the more complex poetry panel work I’m currently creating alongside them in my studio.

Blue Aster is the birth month painting of September, but this piece carries an especially meaningful story. Almost instinctively, the monarch found its way into this painting. I felt that there was an imbalance with just the blue asters on the left and I just knew it needed something else. I started to paint the monarch on the right hand side and immediately received a call from overseas asking if I had a monarch panting for sale.

There are some paintings that feel like they carry a little more meaning than you could have planned for. I’m so honored that Wild Aster now has a home where its story can continue. A monarch butterfly is a symbol of hope, transformation and resilience. This piece acts as a reminder of a deep and sudden loss for someone who needed this piece without her ever even knowing it. 🤍

Loved receiving this photo from a friend and collector who just framed and hung her hummingbird piece against William Morris Collection® wallpaper. Such a perfect pairing.
