Photo III-Honors students visited SCAD Atlanta!

They attended a hands-on workshop exploring photogravure, an alternative analog photographic process. They learned from Professor Brown, spent time in the dark room, and learned a new photographic process. Thank you to the professional artists and educators at SCAD Atlanta for creating a meaningful experience with our students!

Congratulations to Yurielle, Oliver, Benjamin, and Emery, who were accepted into the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony Young Artists program! They performed this past weekend at Lakeside High School and showcased their hard work and talent. We can't wait to see what they bring to the program!

Fifth-grade artists are embracing Día de los Mu***os!

In studying Día de los Mu***os and learning about the meaningful Mexican tradition of celebrating the lives of loved ones who have passed, they're diligently designing their own sugar skulls. They're each creating their own unique design based on symbolism, patterns, and traditions. The project teaches them about how art can tell stories, honor cultures and traditions, and celebrate the lives and memories of others.

Painting Spotlight on Audrey & Dylan! 🎨

Audrey ’28 (left) is taking her first painting class this semester! Level 1 students have begun by painting objects they brought from home. Audrey’s piece showcases her object and the progress she’s made on it.

Dylan ’29 (right) is in Level 2 painting, focusing on creating a small three-piece body of work around family traditions. She’s chosen to focus this project on her family’s hunting trips!

Summer programs are stealing the show!

Fannie Bradley '27 attended a Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama precollege program this summer. She attended for acting, learning from one of the best drama programs in the US! She even got to see CMU's copy of Shakespeare's First Folio dating back to 1623. They ended the program with mock college auditions to close out their time in Pittsburgh! Bravo, Fannie Bradley 👏

Check, Please!

We're highlighting this past Middle School fall play, aptly titled "Check, Please!" This one-act comedy performed by Middle Schoolers in 2024 showcases a series of dates that go horribly wrong. Eventually, one guy and one girl find each other and happiness after a series of bad dating experiences. Which performance throwback do you want to see highlighted next?

Spotlight on: Lynn King, MS Band Director 🎼

Meet oboe master and teacher extraordinaire, Lynn King! Outside of school, Lynn plays the oboe with the Cobb Wind Symphony. She started playing clarinet, but switched to oboe in 7th grade. She finds CWS to be a great outlet to exchange ideas and advice with other band directors.

"One of my favorite things about teaching at Lovett is watching students experience those same moments of discovery. Whether it’s the first sound they make, finally getting a tricky note, or realizing they can create something they didn’t think they could, those little victories are what make teaching so rewarding."

Lions travel! This summer, a group of Lovett students were selected to study art at SCAD Lacoste in Provence, France. They explored the historic village of Lacoste, experimented with new artistic media, and connected with other art students across the country. They experienced firsthand how culture and travel can inspire creativity.

Spotlight on our spaces: Ceramics Room

After moving to their own, designated space in 2025, Ceramics students are loving their new classroom located on the first floor of the Upper School. It was designed specifically for Ceramics, complete with plenty of pottery wheels, a glazing space, and a kiln close by. Ceramics students can even connect with other visual arts students as the classes are physically close by.
