Holiday songs are special. We only listen to them for a few weeks out of the year, but so many transcend time and are played year after year, pretty much forever. They run the gambit, everything from religious to comical. They also span genres, from Funk to Country to R&B, you name it.

I wanted to do a song that harkened back to the vibe and flavor of a 1940s era, something like the Andrews Sisters. So, as the lyrics came to me so did the melody. Kevin Flournoy had worked with me on each of my live shows in Los Angeles and San Diego, and he plays so beautifully that I knew I wanted him to produce and play on Everything I Ask For. I sent him a vocal scratch, and he loved it. He put together an all-star band, I flew out to L.A., and we all met up at the studio in early September and did our thing.
