Check in on Balor and Zephyr, our two rescued beluga whales from Canada, with a look at one of their care sessions. In our last update, we shared they both had decreased appetites, with no significant findings upon their exams. We’re still monitoring them, but we’re glad to see they are improving and eating more! Just as we said before, there is no end to what we will offer them to help them adjust and thrive. In addition to continuous monitoring, we’re providing different food items and enrichment opportunities - and as much love and attention they want. As they acclimate, we will bring you more updates on the boys, B + Z, and their life at Georgia Aquarium!

Update on Balor and Zephyr, our two rescued beluga whales from Canada. Both are integrating well with the other whales, interacting with trainers, and adjusting to their new habitat. They’re becoming part of the pod more each day.

Zephyr has been eating and adjusting really well, until recently when he showed a decreased appetite. After examining him, we did not find anything significant, and he has gotten some of his appetite back. We will continue to monitor him to make sure there are no other changes but for now, he is improving. Balor has not gained weight as steadily as expected and he has not shown a big appetite. We examined Balor to see what may be causing this and found nothing significant. He is now improving after we made changes to his diet!

Changes like these are not entirely unusual for rescued animals as we learn more about their preferences and they adjust. It could be as simple as preferring one food item over another, or something else. We will continue to monitor them closely, try different food items, and provide any supportive care they may need or perform further tests should there be other changes.

Our commitment has always been to give them every opportunity to thrive and there is no end to what we will provide them for care, nutrition, and animal wellbeing. We will be bringing you more updates on B + Z so you can stay up to date on their progress - stay tuned!
