"Prince's message of love resonates in turbulent times."

NHK World, Japan's national broadcaster, has just aired this four-minute story on Prince's Minneapolis, featuring The People's Museum for Prince. They filmed with us on our opening day at Roberts Gallery, Prince's birthday, and their editors ran the story eight times across their global news day.
Wonderful to see so many glimpses of the museum's art works on screen, and so many people gathered across the city in Prince's memory.

From Minneapolis to Melbourne..

Dearly Beloved has its Australian premiere screening in Melbourne TODAY, Sunday July 12 at Melbourne Documentary Film Festival!

This film tells a personal story of grief, love and transformation, as it traces a pilgrimage to Minneapolis in the wake of Prince's passing. Filmed over 9 years, the film journeys to Prince's houses, as the narrator searches for Prince Rogers Nelson after he is gone, and finds something unexpected.

It's special to bring this film back to my home town and to a city where there is so much love for Prince.

It's the first film produced by the People's Museum for Prince.
The People's Museum presents art and personal stories exploring the deep impact of Prince on many lives across the world. We just wrapped our June 2026 edition across 3 venues in Minneapolis — 70 participants from 7 countries, a full month of programs, visitors from all over the world. Documentation coming soon!

We deinstalled the 2026 edition this week 💜

Closing day was a celebration — Pamela Ayo Yetunde's inspiring teachings on Prince's spirituality, DJ Manny and Terry Jackson on percussion closing out the season, Bon Mott's impromptu performance to "Hot Thing" in the cat suit she danced in with Prince in Sydney, 2012. Neighbor Ashley came by with her daughters, bringing lemonade for all.

We were honored by a visit from Prince's cousin Shauntel, longtime Northsiders, schooldays friends of Prince, and many of the younger artists who contributed to this year's exhibition. And Bethany Tobias — who made the monumental penny portrait everyone loved — drove all the way from South Carolina to pick it up but then decided it belonged here in Minneapolis, and donated it to the Museum.

Thank you to every artist, participant, and collaborator who made 2026 what it was. Our hearts are full.

Last call! The People's Museum for Prince is about to close our June 2026 season.

Please join us today (Thursday) 12–5pm, tomorrow (Friday) 12–6pm (Happy Hour 4–6pm), or for our final day of celebration, Saturday, June 27, 12–6pm — before we send all the art back home across the USA and to all the corners of the world. Yes, Bethany is coming all the way from South Carolina to crate and transport her monumental penny portrait of Prince back home. Visit while you can!

Saturday is a full closing day:

12–6pm — Gallery open all afternoon for a final visit

2pm — A conversation on Prince and spirituality with author Pamela Ayo Yetunde, M.A., Th.D., founder of the Theology of Prince project and author of Dearly Beloved: Prince, Spirituality, & This Thing Called Life. Ayo reads from her book and joins curator E.C. Balázs in conversation. Ayo writes: "Prince was a musical prodigy who was prolific, profane, poetic and prophetic. His name is nearly synonymous with the word “purple” – the color of a transcending and cleansing spiritual power that he wanted to see us immersed in. Let the spirit of that aspiration open your ears and heart to receive Prince’s blessings again and again."

5:30pm — A closing circle to complete this edition of the People's Museum, with gratitude for everyone who made this season possible.

Come for Ayo's program, stay for the whole afternoon, or just stop by to say goodbye to the gallery with some good community and great music from Prince. We would love to welcome you or welcome you back in these last days. 🤩

We held a special community day on Sunday. We welcomed a gathering of Prince's Northside school friends and went on a tour around the neighborhood.

It was a beautiful day of memory and art, welcoming Prince's school friends Stephanie Carlson, Terry Jackson, Jeralyn Godman, Peggy Patterson and Kathi White Pollard to share their stories. We took a journey through some of Stephanie's archive of letters, journals and drawings, including a valentine from Prince (on view now!). Did you know The People's Museum for Prince also has a special exhibition at The Capri Theater? Let's Work! A Labor of Love features photography, painting, textiles, and digital works, together with personal stories, all inspired by Prince Rogers Nelson. Plus an original ticket from Prince's Capri Theater show, January 7, 1979. On view now through June 26.

Works by 7 artists: Myc Daz, Nettrice Gaskins, Troy Gua Art, Timothy Harmon, Peyton Scott Russell, Betsy Shannon and Suzanne Wint

Community Day this Sunday — Father's Day weekend, free and drop-in. Roberts Gallery, 2400 Plymouth Ave N.

This is one of our last gatherings before The People's Museum for Prince closes June 27, a community day centered on North Minneapolis and how it shaped Prince.

12pm — Free Walking Tour of Prince's North Minneapolis, led by historian Kristen Zschomler. Walk past Prince's childhood homes, his cousin Chazz Smith's house, the schools, the streets where his earliest bands played.
