(ATLANTA) - The Meeting, an 8-time NAACP Image Award Winning and Emmy Award- Winning playwright, will be gracing the stage in Clayton County this Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, in collaboration with Clayton County Public Schools. This production has been staged across the country and the world by various directors; and now, Kelvin Wade will be bringing his adaptation of the thought-provoking and powerful stage play to the Performing Arts Center, in Jonesboro, GA; featuring Trivon Howard and Louie Love, portraying the iconic roles of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr.
What would happen if Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X had met in secret to debate the future of the civil rights movement? Oh, to be a fly on that wall! With rare insight and unsettling power, Jeff Stetson's The Meeting conjures up a fictional scenario where the two iconic African-American leaders convene in a Harlem hotel circa 1965. There, they discuss their visions for nationwide change, and as their no-holds-barred conversation expands and deepens, the two contrasting personalities come to learn much about the other and -- together -- discover common ground.
This event will be opened by Special Guest Host, KD Bowe (Praise 102.5 FM, ManUP! Inc.). KD serves as an on-air radio personality for one of the nation’s largest multi-media companies, Radio One.
