Do you know the surest and quickest way of obtaining your specific desire? It’s prayer!
But what is prayer? Prayer is desire-not vain repetitions or religious
chants but communication with infinite intelligence. Our Creator’s only requirement of prayer is to expand our consciousness on what we want. Furthermore, prayer is not only worship, it also unites us with our spirit. “Whatsoever things you ask for, when ye pray, believe that ye shall receive them, and ye shall have them.” There’s only catch-you must ask intelligently.
A story is told of two monks who strolled in the garden of the monastery each afternoon. One day they decided they would enjoy listening to music during their walks. Each agreed that they would ask the bishop for permission. The next day as they came out for their walk, one of the monks was wearing headphones and carrying a cassette player while the other looked in amazement.
“Didn’t you ask if you could listen to music?” The wired monk asked.
“I asked permission and was refused,” replied his colleague.
“How did you ask?” queried the first.
“I approached the bishop and said, ‘Father, when I’m walking and meditating in the garden, is it okay if I listen to music?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely not!’
“Well,” said the other, “you were refused because of the way you asked the question. I approached the bishop and said, ‘Master, when I am listening to music in the garden is all right if I meditate?’ And he said, ‘Certainly.’ ” Prayer is talking something over with God rather than trying to talk God out of something.

Oscar James Dunn
Born: 1826
Died: November 22, 1871

In 1868, Oscar James Dunn became the first black elected lieutenant governor of a U.S. state when he won office in Louisiana. Even more remarkable was that Oscar was born into slavery where he, his mother Maria and sister Jane were held in bo***ge until his father James, purchased their freedom around 1832.

Thurgood Marshall
Born: July 2, 1908
Died: January 24, 1993

On June 13, 1967, Thurgood Marshall was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. After congress confirmed his nomination the following October, Justice Marshall became the first African-American to serve on the nation’s highest court where he remained until his retirement in 1991.
Justice Marshall attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania and Howard University Law School in Washington, D.C. both HBCU institutions. More Profiles at www.leanin.live

Medgar Evers
Born: July 2, 1925
Assassinated: June 12, 1963

Medgar Evers served as the first state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi. His work was inherently dangerous traveling around the state recruiting members and reregistering people to vote. Medgar Evers was killed June 12, 1963 after pulling into his driveway at his home in Mississippi, three weeks shy of his 38th birthday. He was Medgar was a justice seeker and his memory and the work he gave his life to continues…

Who Is Your Scapegoat?

The Old Testament book of Leviticus describes the sacred custom of using a scapegoat once a year to atone for the sins, mistakes, and failures for the Israelite nation. In a solemn ceremony Aaron, the high priest, would lead a goat to the outskirts of the camp. There he would place his hands on the goat’s head and confess over it all the sins of the Israelite people. Through this symbolic act the goat took on the sins. It was then allowed to escape and wander in the wilderness, presumably to die.
The term scapegoat is still with us today, but it is not used in reference to a sacred ceremony. Now people use it to describe what or who they choose to blame for their problems or mistakes. Some people make scapegoats of their parents; others blame their woes on the government, the economy, their school, their company, or their boss.
Instead of working on what is going on inside them, they try to blame what is going on around them. It’s always easier and more convenient to assume that the answer or the blame lies elsewhere. But life is a do-it-yourself proposition. “We increase our ability and stability,’’ said late rhythm-and-blues great Curtis Mayfield, “when we increase our sense of accountability and responsibility.” You must accept personal responsibility for the quality of your performance. You are responsible for your reaction to the circumstances in your life.

I am responsible for me. I point no fingers, give no excuses, and offer no scapegoats.

The man known as ‘Little Richard’ and beloved by millions, died Saturday, May 9th at the age of 87. Born Richard Penniman, December 5, 1932 in Macon, Georgia, the man whose music and on-stage performances thrilled audiences and redefined showmanship, was considered by many as the man who invented Rock and Roll. His trailblazing style was hypnotic and opened the doors to many ‘rockers’ who would find stardom in the U.S. and around the world.
