Tichenor Tuesday✨
This charming three-wheeled velocipede offers a glimpse into childhood during the Victorian era. Constructed of iron with wooden-rimmed wheels and a simple leather saddle, the tricycle reflects the growing popularity of cycling in the late 1800s. Designed for stability and ease of use, tricycles such as this one provided children with both recreation and an early sense of independence.
Found within the McDaniel-Tichenor House, this artifact serves as a reminder that while the home's grand architecture and formal entertaining spaces tell the story of its adult occupants, everyday family life unfolded here as well. One can easily imagine a young member of the household pedaling across porches, pathways, or garden walks, bringing energy and laughter to the historic property.
Today, the tricycle stands as a tangible connection to the children who once called the McDaniel-Tichenor House home, preserving a small but meaningful piece of their world.✨

One charming hosting tradition from 1887 was the practice of personally greeting each guest at the door.
In the late Victorian era, etiquette manuals emphasized that a host or hostess should welcome every guest upon arrival rather than relying on servants to do so. Even in grand homes with household staff, it was considered a mark of good breeding and genuine hospitality for the hostess to receive guests herself, exchange a few pleasant words, and ensure they felt comfortable before joining the gathering.
This tradition reflected the belief that hospitality was not just about providing food and entertainment—it was about making each guest feel valued and personally welcomed. A gracious greeting set the tone for the entire event and was considered one of the most important duties of a host.
It's a tradition that still feels relevant today: no matter how elaborate the party, a warm personal welcome remains one of the simplest and most meaningful gestures a host can offer.

Meaningful Touches
One thing that makes the McDaniel-Tichenor House so special is the tradition woven into every celebration. We love the meaningful touches at weddings here, especially when generations of the same family have celebrated their weddings at the House.

Tichenor Tuesday ✨
This elegant porcelain table lamp reflects the refined decorative tastes popular in many Southern homes during the mid-to-late twentieth century. Featuring a pleated cream shade, gilded trim, and delicate monochromatic pastoral scenes, the lamp evokes the neoclassical influence often found in historic interiors. The black-and-white transferware-style imagery depicts romantic landscapes and classical ruins, motifs inspired by eighteenth-century European design traditions.
Displayed against richly patterned wallpaper, the piece contributes to the layered warmth and formal sophistication characteristic of the McDaniel-Tichenor House. Functional yet decorative, lamps such as this helped create the inviting glow of family sitting rooms and guest chambers while also serving as statements of taste and gentility.
Its timeless silhouette and carefully detailed ornamentation offer a glimpse into the evolving decorative history of the home, where historic architecture and curated furnishings together preserve the atmosphere of another era.✨

Gipsy's Garden is in full bloom and we are loving the beautiful flowers appearing throughout the season. One standout is this gorgeous white Bearded Iris. You can recognize it by its soft, ruffled petals and the distinctive "beard" on the lower petals. Its sword-like leaves at the base are another classic iris feature. These elegant blooms typically flower in late spring and are commonly found in garden beds and historic landscapes, adding timeless beaty wherever they grow.
