Goal: Create a realistic sandwich (using description from client) as a game-ready asset.
Time: ~18 hours
A client required evidence that I could create realistic food assets. The art test was simple enough: a sandwich of tomato and onion with a fried egg on top. I worked on this from 7:30 p.m. to 12 p.m. of the next day with about 2 hours total in breaks because I was excited to have a client again after a bit of dry spell.
The most difficult part was constructing realistic textures from samples of images, since most were watermarked or taken at less useful angles. I included a few of my albedo texture files to show what I managed to create from sampling, selecting regions of photos to paste over empty areas, adjusted with various stamp and healing tools in Photoshop, and color corrected to match other regions (such as the crust of the bread matching the face of the bread). All textures were later combined into one.
