Things-in-Themselves A scholar-artist based company that produces performance art, which includes all forms of art. What does the concept of "Things-in-Themselves" come from?

From Kant's "Critique of Pure Reason," published in 1781, Kant argues for a surprising set of claims about space, time, and objects:

Space and time are merely the forms of our sensible intuition of objects. They are not beings that exist independently of our intuition (things-in-themselves), nor are they properties of, nor relations among, such beings. (Kant, A26, A33)

We can only cogn

ize objects that we can, in principle, intuit. Consequently, we can only cognize objects in space and time, appearances. We cannot cognize things in themselves. (Kant, A239)

From Kant's excerpts "Things-in-Themselves" are basically the status of objects as they are, independent of representation and observation. They seem to give an explanation to the question of "why" things are here. Since we are not capable of explaining why things exist, perhaps is also why he states that ultimately "Things-in-Themselves" are unknowable. Such concepts that express the overall arching essences of things felt appropriate for the title of the production company, or the name of the band as they say. -John W. Thrilled for the upcoming performance at ArtWalk jasper to be included in the new Smoke Signals edition. Check it out and hope to see you there. On Sept. 22nd I'll be performing my dramatic original adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey at the Artwalk in Jasper at BadDonkey Studio 7:30-8:00. It's approx a 20-30min. dramatic performance (solo performer/Homeric bard style), which focuses on the Cyclops scene. This is a component of my storytelling program "PerformingtheClassics" which I toured a few years ago in school districts. The show begins at 7:30. See you there!

Things-in-Themselves is excited to bring the full Mimebo production to Bad Donkey Studio on Dec. 29th and 30th. The two parts of the series were performed separately during the ArtWalk Jasper events this fall with great success. Part 1: “The Box (The Birth of the Mime)” and Part II: “Jack and the Beanstalk (The Mime Evolves)” will be presented together for the first time. If you missed one or both parts, or caught them both and want to attend again, we invite you to see the original performance art piece in its entirety. The show is approximately one hour long.
