Well, we sometimes think that we might have already met the Best Dogs and then along comes Benito, aka Bennie! He’s a 10 month old Golden mix rescued by his PawParents at a shelter where he’d been for 2 weeks & unbelievably hadn’t been adopted within that timeframe. Sweet. Smart. Playful. Happy. Seriously Big Puppy with Lots o’ Love to give to his new PawMom & PawDad. Love was in the air🐾💓
And without any hesitation immediately grabbed his new Pumpkin Snuffle Ball🧡 When they get home he’ll actually get treats tucked into the folds to focus on retrieving but right now treats aren’t necessary😁

In the early hours of December 4, 1966, dozens of enemy fighters slipped onto Tan Son Nhut Air Base near Saigon and attacked with mortars and explosives. The first warning came from the base's sentry dogs. The attack was beaten back, but it cost the lives of 3 dogs and 1 handler, and some of the attackers were still hiding inside the base.

That night, a US Air Force sentry dog named Nemo went out on patrol with his handler, 22-year-old Airman Bob Throneburg, to hunt for them.

Near a graveyard on the base, Nemo alerted. Throneburg released him, and the hidden fighters opened fire.

In the first moments, Throneburg and Nemo took down 2 of the attackers. Then Throneburg was shot in the shoulder. And a bullet hit Nemo under his right eye and exited through his mouth.

What the wounded dog did next made him famous. Shot through the face, Nemo threw himself at the attackers again. The seconds he bought let Throneburg radio for help before he collapsed from his wounds. Then Nemo crawled to his unconscious handler and covered Throneburg's body with his own. When security forces reached them, the bleeding dog would not let anyone touch him. Airmen had to pull Nemo away before medics could treat the man he was guarding.

Both survived. Throneburg was evacuated by helicopter and recovered. He received 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with V for valor. While he was still in the hospital, Nemo was brought to see him.

Nemo's eye could not be saved. In 1967, the Air Force flew him home, and he became one of the first sentry dogs ever officially retired by the US military. He was given a permanent retirement kennel at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, home of the military's dog program, and spent his retirement as its ambassador, helping recruit the next generation of war dogs.

Nemo died at Lackland in December 1972. His memorial kennel and a stone in his honor still stand there today.

Meet gentle Lucy, a 5 year old golden doodle rescued when she was 4. Her PawDad always gives her choices and she chose the red & white pawprint that matched her vest over the pink❤️

She actually has a very heartwarming story.
Her PawDad applied to adopt her from a rehoming situation where there were 2 other people at a Park scheduled to meet her. The owner wanted to see how she would respond to them and decide accordingly. Lucy jumped out of the car and raced straight to him!
She immediately, without any hesitation, chose him!!!

They’ve been together for almost a year now and he’s very aware of her transition to a new home needing his patience.
So when socializing he started dressing in her coat colors for her to accept him as one of the Pack and it’s very effective🐾 He showed me her white chest color that he was matching in his shoes choice🤗

I see firsthand a lot of different rescues with their PawParents and I was touched by his significantly insightful and clearly loving effort. It shows in how she behaved and looks at him! And how he treats her, talks to her - a very special bond💞🐾

Meet my Most Favorite - Handsome - Best Boy Charlie!!
Standard poodles are exceptionally Smart and it’s very important to provide mental challenges on a regular basis.
His PawDad identified early on what Charlie needs when first rescuing him from what was simply a level of neglect.
Lack of problem solving for certain breeds is actually a form of that. He knows exactly what Charlie needs and stay tuned to see him enjoying the foraging challenge🐾❤️

Tsunami, a nine-year-old Border Collie from Venezuela, has been honored with a bronze statue at Vereda del Lago Park in Maracaibo in recognition of his work as a search-and-rescue dog. Tsunami has taken part in disaster response missions in Brazil, Colombia, Syria, and Turkey, including the earthquake response effort in La Guaira, helping locate people trapped beneath rubble.

What makes his story especially meaningful is that Tsunami was rescued from an abusive and troubled home before going on to become an internationally recognized rescue dog. His owner, Jorge Beens, thanked city authorities and the people of Maracaibo for honoring Tsunami and for recognizing the broader work that rescue dogs do around the world.

The tribute also included the reopening of a dog park at the Ana María Campos space, where Tsunami met and interacted with members of the local community. A dog who once needed rescuing himself is now being celebrated for helping save the lives of others.
