Cotton Ghost #4
30” x 19”
Archival photo printed on somerset velvet paper embellished with acrylic
Hopeton St. Clair Hibbert
This piece is part of ‘s “Cotton Ghost” collection. This collection is an abstract presentation of cotton sheets, shot in black & white. These ghost-like portraits emphasize shade, lines and depth as they stand at attention in their ghostly pose.
Remove the idea that spectre are a myth and envision the portraits of Cotton ghosts. Cotton and the soul of Africans are foundational pillars of the American South . In order to preserve the significance of their effort these souls beckoned me to engage and capture their depth in every crease. Speechless, these shapes pose, exposing intricacies, reminders and shadows of a time full of false dominance, and hope. Throughout the years this heritage has been stitched into the fiber of America.
We are running an online exclusive exhibition on Artsy officially opening today 10/20 through 11/20.
