"When a man's faith is never tried, I don't think he'll ever learn anything. You have to have trial and tribulation, or what are you going to learn?" McCoy Tyner

McCoy was an inspired musician who devoted his life to his art, his family, and his spirituality. McCoy Tyner’s music and legacy will continue to inspire fans and future talent for generations to come.

At our inaugural Jazz Music Awards, we honored and celebrated McCoy, honoring him with our "Jazz Legend" Award and a rousing musical tribute with Kenny Garrett, Orrin Evans and Terri Lyne Carrington.

Looking forward to the The Kennedy Center Honors, with the 2022 lifetime artistic achievements going to George Clooney; Amy Grant; Gladys Knight; Tania León; and iconic Irish rock band U2. The program which airs on Sunday on CBS, includes performances from Dianne Reeves in honor of George Clooney, who directed and starred in "Good Night and Good Luck" and hand picked Dianne to sing live in the film. We are especially thrilled to see Ms. Reeves again, after her amazing performance at the Jazz Music Awards. She'll be joined by this year's 3x Grammy nominee John Beasley, as well as Atlanta based drummer extraordinaire Terreon Gully.

"Stay Ready, so you don't have to Get Ready! Growing up, my big brother Ralph Peterson Jr. must have said this to me a thousand times, and in return, I shared it as my modus operandi while teaching. "It's a tie! The winners for Best Mainstream Album are Kenny Garrett and Orrin Evans." No matter how much I stayed ready, I was nowhere near ready for that announcement! I sat there in shock for a few seconds, and then it hit, "I have to say something on the mic!!!" That should be easy for the son of two performing artists, a bandleader, and an avid poster of several videos on social media speaking his mind.
The moment hit, and all I could think about was a conversation from two days earlier that no one in the audience had heard. Oddly enough, the corny joke went over well (kind of), and I got it together to thank my family. There were so many others to thank, and I've repeatedly punished myself for the last week for not thanking them. After watching my acceptance "paragraph," I realized thanking my wife and sons was all that needed to be said. My family is what motivates me, repairs me, inspires me, and relaxes me. Without them, there is no music! Thank You, and all the people who put in the hard work to produce the inaugural Jazz Music Awards, Terri Lyne Carrington, for continually inviting me to participate in outstanding life-changing events, and Kenny Garrett for his graciousness and leadership. If you're reading this, I invite you to raise your hands high in the sky and join me in celebrating. We are all , and I appreciate you listening, producing, recording, presenting, performing, purchasing, collecting, and most importantly, teaching the beauty of MUSIC!" Orrin Evans
