“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature” —Luke 2:52
He mysteriously grew in the womb of a virgin,
as His Father entrusted Him to one who was to be called “blessed”.
He didn’t regard equality with God as something to be grasped,
but emptied Himself — and became flesh by means of a woman.
And under her faithfulness, guidance, and care,
under the Father’s wisdom, grace, and provision,
Jesus Christ matured in age and knowledge.
Oh, but I wish I only could have been there
To witness the gaze He meets His mother with
To hear of the quiet secrets she and her Son would exchange
of all the prophecies soon to be fulfilled.
For “Blessed [was] she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.” [Lk 1:45]
By the grace of God, this mother-Son duo had a Heavenly trust that the Father would provide for them in their greatest need.
It was all only a matter of time
From the crib to the cross
From rejection to the redemption
From grave to the glory
I wonder the ways He looked to His mom to learn how she pondered these difficult yet glorious things in her heart. [Lk 2:19]
The Father so loved His only begotten Son to bestow upon Him the gift of a favored woman to call “Mother”.
For she certainly came to be His safe place, His confidant, and His hiding place. He hid in the refuge of the Father while also finding safety in the bosom of the Mother.
Fully God, fully man.
I can only imagine the stories she has to tell.
“He whom the heavens cannot contain was contained in the womb of a woman.” — St. Augustine
