Happy Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows — 🤎
The very woman the Father chose to bear the Son before the beginning of time, now being told “a sword [would] pierce her soul.”
What is one to make of this?
A miraculous promise made, and then seemingly in an instance it is all revoked?
But no,
not for our Mother.
She knew better.
In the face of death, she courageously stood on that dark hillside as her Son’s precious blood sprinkled upon her mantle. A sight no mother should have to see. Yet, because of what had been spoken, she clung tightly to the hope of the Father’s promises.
And on that third day,
I can only imagine,
her heart was the furthest thing from disappointment.
“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.” -Lk. 1:45
“Hope does not disappoint.” -Romans 5:5
Like Mary, let us hold fast to the faithfulness of our Lord, even amidst suffering. May we, alongside her, cling to the Cross of Christ Jesus and find solace in the truth that He is ever-present to us, and that He is a God of His promise.
