I used to be a cat person. I'd always wanted a cat, and I finally got one in my mid-20s. A few years later, I was volunteering at a local animal shelter, taking photos of adoptable cats, when the staff asked if I would take some pictures of a litter of puppies. As a cat person, I was hesitant, but they were cute and cuddly (and clean)...and that's where I fell in love. I adopted one of the puppies

in the litter, but for a solid year would insist that I was still only a cat person. But little by little, I had to admit that I was becoming a dog person, too. Athens is such a great town to be a dog lover. People bring their dogs everywhere. Around town, you can see the love between the dogs and their pet parent(s). I love to hear about that relationship from the humans, and I live to capture the personality of each dog I meet. Even though most of the pups featured on Dogs of Athens are in happy homes all over Athens, there are still too many dogs in our local shelters. And that's what I wanted to highlight through this photo project...rescuing your dog from a shelter not only saves their life, but it frees up space in the shelters so more animals can be rescued. Dogs of Athens promotes pet adoption from a local shelter, as well as responsible pet ownership. I hope to see you and your pupper around town soon!!
