The Forge Hobbies and Games

​One of the best parts of the hobby is finding a "home base" wherever you go. Huge thanks to The Forge in Virginia for the hospitality during my last six weeks on duty.

​The Star Wars: Unlimited local scene here is top-tier. I had an amazing time drafting with everyone—from the kids of the staff to the veterans who have been there since Day 1. I cannot recommend this shop enough.

​If you’re anywhere near Charlottesville, do yourself a favor and jump in very soon. The service is incredible, the people are better, and the games are epic.

I think I just used up my luck for the entire year.

​The vault is officially open for A Lawless Time, and the pulls from the new set have been absolutely legendary. I’m still shaking from seeing these hit the table: Vader, Beckett, Aurra Sing, and Baron Vonreg—all in their full Showcase glory!

​Huge shoutout to the crew at Gordon’s Good Games for the incredible hospitality and for clearly stocking the "hot" boxes. It’s a reminder of why the LGS experience is unbeatable.

​Beyond my local shop, I’ve been exploring some other fantastic local stores in the East Coast recently, and I’ll be sharing more about those gems soon. ​Upgraded the Monks Gaming Battlefield today with these incredible premium tokens from Hearth & Token! Honestly, for an RPG fan and trophy hunter, there is something so satisfying about the tactile feel of high-quality components. It’s like hitting that Platinum trophy IRL.

​The detail on these is next-level—perfect for tracking those bounties and keeping the board state clean during the heat of a match. They definitely would have made tracking my health against Ben’s Luke deck a lot easier last week! 😅

​We kicked things off at Gordon’s Good Games with our first box break and prerelease kits, and the Outer Rim was definitely kind to the Monks Gaming Crew! After the rush of our first-ever draft last week, diving into these new mechanics feels like a whole new game.

One last ride before the lawless chaos begins.

​We hit up Gordon’s Good Games last night for a Jump to Lightspeed draft, which marked a huge milestone for us—our first-ever limited experience! There is something about the "build on the fly" pressure of drafting that is just next-level fun.

​Taking Vader Blue for a spin, with my daughter on Vonreg Blue was the highlight, though the table made us earn every victory. The MVP of the night? The two Direct Hits I managed to snag—they absolutely stole the show against Griffin and Nate. But my final match against Ben? That was a different beast entirely. It was a total knife-edge—I think I was only 2 or 3 damage away from a loss, and it came down to pure, sweaty-palm strategy to scrape out the win.

​Absolute blast of a night. We came, we drafted, and we somehow walked away on top. Great night with some great people especially Joe that I haven't seen in years-missed you bro!

​But now, the eyes are shifting. With A Lawless Time dropping next week, the meta is about to get shaken up, and I’m ready to start the climb all over again.
