Doughboy: Standing Watch
Dedicated by the American Legion on July 21, 1926, Astoria's Victory Monument, locally known as the Doughboy Monument was dedicated to local soldiers from Clatsop County who fought in the "Great War".
It features a bronze infantryman titled “Over the Top at Cantigny,” sculpted by John Paulding.
Doughboys: American infantry soldiers, most famously associated with those who fought during World War I.
As the infantrymen made long, grueling marches across dusty terrains white dust covered them, making them look like unbaked dough.
Initially called "dobies" and later called "doughboys".
Fun fact! You can walk down its steps to use its public restrooms!
