📣 Golden Folk returns to the Grey Eagle Wednesday, May 20th!

Piano night lives on. Sally said, "we should rename Piano Night to Big Feelings Night." Becca said, "piano singer-songwriters are just built different." They're both right. Anyone who was in that room with us won't soon be forgetting the impact of the songs that were shared.

Cody and Tucker drove all the way from Pittsburgh to share their meticulous pop tunes. Aslyn drove from Athens and taught us how to craft a perfect melody. And the rest of the local lineup was simply stunning as well. Jack and Mike, the sweet Slow Packer brothers shared a few songs, practically on the eve of their record release. It's so special—please check it out. Louise wowed us with her powerful voice and soulful songwriting. Daniel from Blue Ridge Parkgay knocked everyone's socks clean off, and gave us literal chills up our necks. Where did he learn to command an audience like that? And Rachel kicked it off in style with her soulful tunes and sneakily wild chord progressions. And as a precious cherry on top, sweet Julie Odell was there to sling her gorgeous cyanotypes.

This time for an extra special return of our PIANO NIGHT, same format that you know and love but with all piano-focused singer songwriters. We are bringing some serious heat from WNC and afar, and hauling a Melodigrand upright piano onstage. Don't miss it! 📣 Golden Folk returns to the Grey Eagle Tuesday, April 28th! 🎹

This time for an extra special return of our PIANO NIGHT, same format that you know and love but with all piano-focused singer songwriters. We are bringing some serious heat from WNC and afar, and hauling a Melodigrand upright piano onstage. Don't miss it! 🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🔥

Last month was one of those magical evenings where everything came together perfectly. Dylan and Pierce started it out tenderly, then we were treated to some epicly beautiful three part harmony arrangements from J's duets with Emily, Allison, and Larkin. Joel burned up some hot fiddle with Fred, fingers flying. Rita and her choir brought us down with their tender choral arrangement of her precious tribute to a fallen friend, and then A Different Thread and Wood tied it all together and brought us back up with their timeless tunes and a triumphant singalong. We didn't want to say goodbye to everyone at the end of the night, despite the lyrics we sang together.

Our pre-show book discussion around the legend, Justin Townes Earle, was special and touching as well. We are so lucky to be able to cavort around at the Eagle each month on that hallowed stage that has brought so many legends to Asheville night after night for years. We don't take it for granted.

You never know what's in store. This next edition is shaping up to be just as special. We are looking forward to introducing you to some of your new favorite piano songwriters on the 28th! 🎹

We’re excited to announce a special "opening" act for our upcoming .avl event on Wed. March 18 at . At 6 p.m., Jonathan Bernstein, senior research editor at Rolling Stone and author of What Do You Do When You’re Lonesome: The Authorized Biography of Justin Townes Earle will read excerpts from his book and chat with local writer/musician Jay Moye about Earle’s life and career, with a focus on the acclaimed singer/songwriter's Asheville legacy. Malaprop’s will be on site selling copies of What Do You Do When You’re Lonesome. Golden Folk kicks off afterwards, at 7:15 as per usual, and there will be some throughlines and nods to Earle from various songwriters throughout the event. It's an honor to hold the event on the very same stage that Earle often shared his songs. See you there!

📣 Golden Folk returns to the Grey Eagle next Wednesday, March 18th!

Are y'all enjoying false Spring? We sure are. Daffodils blooming, redbuds coming any day now, and we can tell the pollen is ready to start spilling out any moment. It'll be near freezing again by the time the show rolls around next week, so enjoy it while you can, pals.

Last month for our Valentine's Day special, we felt the love rolling in a big way. We had our hearts broken and lovingly reassembled by all of our beautiful friends. Love is still in the air today if you believe it is, despite the stenches of war, graft, and corruption. Let's keep gathering in person around good songs, shall we? Also, our good friend Drew Ball (Ball for Y'all!) has advanced to the general election in November. Congrats to him and the rest of the candidates pushing for positive change in Asheville, WNC, NC, and nationally.

📣 Golden Folk returns to the Grey Eagle next Wednesday, February 18th!

It's been a sleepy winter but the snow is almost all melted (for now, at least) and the wood stoves of WNC can catch a little break. We hope everyone is staying warm and has their wood stoves, furnaces, mini splits in working order and are well-stocked with fuel. Come join us and bring a date for a belated Valentine's Day celebration. You might hear a love song or two.
