Our Story
QUICKCHESTER·TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2019·
QuickChester began as a folk duo. Paul Quick and Mark Chester met sometime around 2009, and began jamming together for fun. Working to develop some of the songs written by Mark, they began performing in an Asheville coffee shop. Expanding into a trio with the addition of Alicia Knighten, they also began to expand the local circle in which they per

formed, as well as their collection of music. Eventually, with the help of local music producer Russ Wheelock, they began to lay tracks for their first album, “Cocoon.”

During the recording process, the group was joined by Kate Barber on flute, and Ed Barber on bass guitar. In February, 2019 they released the CD “Cocoon” with live shows including The Flying Oatsmen out of Atlanta, GA, (Russell Brown - guitar, Jerry Sorn, keyboard, guitar, pedal steel, Scott Balun - Bass, and Darren Goot, Drums) Nathan Ebanks, Asheville, NC - keyboard, Daniel Wytanis, Atlanta, GA - trombone, and Chris Suarez, Atlanta, GA - saxophone.

Sometimes fate brings about changes, and, welcome or not, they come, and they change things. Quickchester began as a folk duo, then trio, then a quartet with bass and flute; then, personnel changes... and with the addition of drums, a five-piece band. We played original music and covers, and rocked out on the sound!

Now, alas, our drummer, Stu, has moved on to Colorado, and the remaining four find ourselves starting anew once more... kind of like our song "Groundhog Day." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pK7DnwVQMM

These changes can be positive, though... in our case, it is causing us to re-focus on our strengths and instincts, turning sour apples into hard cider! We are re-thinking our tone, our harmonies, the music we play, everything. Will we return with a new drummer? Perhaps. Or perhaps not. But we will proceed renewed commitment, on a better road, with new tires.

Thank you Mills River Brewing Co. for hosting us Saturday night! Most crowded we've ever seen it! Sadly, I found out it wasn't just because of us... they had several parties going on, as well as an event next door at The Barn next door. It was a packed house for Hope Griffin Music, who preceded us in the afternoon, and remained that way throughout our set. We made some new friends and can't wait to come back!

We'd like to thank Saluda Outfitters for having us back last night for a fantastically fun evening! College football was on, and some baseball game (even though it's cold and dark and the "Boys of Summer" are freezing their bats off). Is it over yet?

Whenever we play at Saluda Outfitters, something wonderful happens. People listen. People dance. People compliment our music. We would like to shout out a big THANK YOU! to these people. Can't wait to do it again!
