Held on First Thursdays, join this all-arts open mic presented by Story Parlor and Speakeasy Improv. Prepare a five minute original piece in whatever medium you so choose — storytelling, music, poetry, literature, comedy, dance — or simply come to enjoy and support the local arts community.

3-2-1 Boom! On March 8th we got all the improv you could ask for! We got 3-prov, 2-prov and 1 Stand-up BOOM! Come out to see some of Ashevilles best improvisers take the stage with a night of long form.

Next Friday night we have a very special guest for you. is the hottest comic in town and we are putting her improv skills to the test! Hilliary was in the Netflix original film Dumplin’ and has been performing standup in and around North Carolina for years. She always brings the laughs and has a ridiculously infectious energy, we are thrilled to feature her on What’s in the Box!

BIG NEWS!! Over the past six months Speakeasy has been creating a global improv residency exchange program called “Worlds Apart”. On March 16th we will be bringing actress and teacher from Greece to perform and teach in Charlotte, Asheville, and Atlanta!

In June, our very own will be teaming up with and traveling to Athens and surrounding areas to teach and perform.

Our goal is to create a residency that breaks down cultural barriers, embraces our differences, and teaches grounded Improv with a theatrical lense.

Jan 26th!! Alex is back in Asheville for a one time only special appearance with What’s in the Box! Alex is a Professional Ganjier that curates cannabis events and culinary concepts in California. You would remember Alex but you probably don’t because you were high. Only Jess remembers. Ask Jess.

Maria Bartholdi is a real-life renaissance woman (all of the awesome stuff, none of the plague). She loves improv more than almost anything and has been performing short-form with ComedySportz Twin Cities and crafting hour-long narratives with for more than a decade. She is a 10-time Upper Midwest Regional Emmy® Award winning video creator as well as the host of Magic the Gathering esports tournaments around the globe. You can hear her talking about nerdy things on her podcast Good Luck High Five.
