Adjacent to The Omni Grove Park Inn is one of Asheville’s hidden gems. Known today as Grovewood Village, this site once housed the weaving and woodworking operations of Biltmore Industries, a force in American craft and textiles that was originally backed by Edith Vanderbilt. A glimpse into the working days of Biltmore Industries. 🧶

This photograph from our archives captures a Biltmore Industries employee at one of the hand looms that once filled the weaving shop at what is now Grovewood Village. At its height in the 1920s, Biltmore Industries operated 40 looms and became renowned for its fine handwoven wool fabrics.

Today, you can discover the story behind this remarkable Arts and Crafts enterprise at the Biltmore Industries Homespun Museum. Explore historic photographs, artifacts, and textiles while learning about the skilled craftspeople who helped make Biltmore Industries internationally known.

The museum is open daily, April through December, from 10am–5pm. Admission is free.

Maggie’s Garden is a handcrafted art tile by Motawi Tileworks inspired by a 1930 woodcut by Australian modernist Margaret Preston, an artist celebrated for her bold interpretations of native plants and distinctive graphic style. Strong lines and stylized blossoms give the design a lively rhythm, blending vintage inspiration with a fresh, contemporary feel.

Created using Motawi’s signature raised-line technique, the tile brings Preston’s garden-inspired composition to life through rich glaze and crisp, sculptural detail. Available in Mint, Green, and Blue colorways, each version offers its own interpretation of the vibrant floral design.

Handcrafted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, this 6 × 8 art tile can be displayed on a stand, hung on a wall, or incorporated into a custom tile installation.

A determined little bird takes center stage in Titmouse Tidbit, a handcrafted art tile based on the work of celebrated wildlife artist Charley Harper. The playful design captures a titmouse in successive stages of motion as it eagerly reaches for a coveted seed, bringing a sense of movement and personality to the scene.

Handcrafted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, this 6" x 8" art tile can be displayed on a stand, hung on a wall, or incorporated into a custom tile installation.

Elevate your workspace with the Prairie Craftsman Desk Lamp, a striking example of American Arts and Crafts design reimagined through the skilled hands of Phillip Daniel Myer. Drawing inspiration from early 20th-century masters like Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles P. Limbert, Myer brings together heritage craftsmanship and refined, modern functionality.

Standing 19 inches tall, the lamp features a beautifully proportioned mica shade that casts a warm, inviting glow across the workspace. Its clean lines and balanced form reflect the Prairie style’s emphasis on simplicity, harmony, and architectural presence.
