Uncle Gary's Old School Comic Cover of the Week highlights the 1994 edition of Marvel Holiday Special drawn by the living legend Mr. George Perez.
This week Mr. Perez announced the devastating news that he had inoperable cancer.
His statement concerning his prognosis and how he wanted to spend his remaining time was a masterful display in grace and class. I would recommend you all look up that statement and read it.
Mr. Perez wants to sign books, take pictures. and meet, greet, and hug (yes hug, read his statement), as many of his fans as possible. He is well know for being the nicest guy in the industry and he takes his time to interact with his devotees when he meets them. I know this from personal experience and my brief time spent with him was a highlight in my lifelong love of comics. He was warm and kind and genuinely enthusiastic about signing my books and posing for pictures with me. My photos are like the ones he takes with everyone where he leans his head toward yours and he puts his arm around you and he smilies broadly. This man loves his craft and he loves the fact that it brings so much joy to others.
For me personally George Perez is on my Mt. Rushmore of favorite artists and he is the absolute master of drawing super teams. He drew two of my favorite stand alone comics in Avengers # 160 and Justice League of America # 200 and he pencilled his magnum opus the four issue JLA / Avengers crossover that is my favorite sure-hero story all time! There has been an online push from comic creators and fans for Marvel and DC to bury the hatchet and work together again to republish this out of print masterpiece and send part of the proceeds to Mr. Perez and his family.
As I close this post I want us to remember he is still with us and we need to celebrate this wonderful man's life. In his statement Mr. Perez said he was filled with Christmas Spirit knowing it is quite possibly his last and he intended to enjoy the holiday more than he had in years.
Let that be an example to us all and may we robustly partake in all the wonder, magic, and joy of Christmas with our family and friends.
God Bless you George Perez and thank you.
Merry Christmas!

And here are this weeks picks!

Batman #118

NEW ARC and NEW CREATIVE TEAM! Gotham has survived the Fear State and moves forward. Batman retreats into the darkness. But when Batman Inc. finds itself in a spot of trouble, Bruce must leave Gotham and head overseas to help the team. If you’ve been looking for a good time to jump on Batman, now is the time!

Dark Knights of Steel #2

Do you like comics? Do you like medieval times like I do? Oh… you’re talking about the era and not the dining and show experience. Tom Taylor and Yasmine Putri’s high-fantasy tale continues here! Kingdoms are on the brink of war after last issue’s assassination. I mean, it’s DC meets the dark ages - what more do you need?

Devil’s Reign #1

Wilson Fisk: Criminal. Killer. Kingpin. Mayor. And now with his newfound position and power, Daredevil isn’t enough. He starts the Super Hero Ban, and with villains signing up left and right to join the Thunderbolt Units, the heroes of New York may have more than they can handle. Zdarsky’s Daredevil run hits a peak with this kick off issue!

Star Wars Crimson Reign #1

Did you enjoy the War of the Bounty Hunters? That story continues here! Qi’ra gathers her forces and it seems as though the Crimson Dawn is as powerful as ever. Their new goal? Rid the galaxy of the Sith and their lords. You don’t wanna miss the next great chapter of the Age of Rebellion!

Mother F Goose One Shot

This is taken directly from the cover of the issue:

“The Three Little Pigs are gluttonous casino owners. Little Miss Muffet is a hard-nosed cop with arachnophobia. The Three Blind Mice are ocularly impaired assassins. Puss in Boots is a feline-faced scumbag. This is not the Mother Goose you know.

We will make you a promise: this is the book that will ruin your childhood.

Sorry, kids!”

I can’t say it any better.

Let us take a cue from Clark and Lois and spend time this weekend trimming the Christmas tree.
Superman # 165 (vol. 2) is our seasonal choice for Uncle Gary's Old School Comic Cover of the Week.
This festive delight was delivered to the comic shops on December 6, 2000 and the cover was decorated by penciler Ed McGuiness and inker Cam Smith who delighted us with images of Kal's Justice League teammates on the ornaments within the box.
This charming issue's tale was written by Jeph Loeb and he told the story of Superman visiting his JLA pals in order to bestow them with Christmas gifts. Ed McGuiness drew the book's framing sequence and a half dozen guest artists penciled the individual chapters where Clark would interact with the various heroes as he was playing Super Santa.
It's a nice holiday change of pace from rounding up the naughty villains.
I hope you all have a lovely time decorating the ho ho home!

Uncle Gary's Old School Comic Cover of the Week takes a walk on the wild side with this selection.
(Insert your own Tarzan yell here since I sure as hell can't even begin to spell the damn thing!)
Tarzan #236 swung into the stores and climbed to the top of the spinner racks on January 28, 1975.
Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs and the subject of many novels, movies, a newspaper comic strip, and radio programs, the Lord of the Jungle has had a long and interesting run in comics that has crossed through many different comic publishers.
First up was a 131 issue run at Dell that lasted from 1948 through 1962 and that led to Gold Key taking up the character for ten years and continuing the numbering from
# 132-206.
Next at bat was DC in 1972 who also kept the numbering intact and published issues # 207-258 until 1978 when the rights to the character shifted to Marvel for a few years.
Alas, Marvel did not keep the historical numbering intact.
Over the years Tarzan has also been published by Charlton, Dark Horse, and Malibu.
There have been many beautiful and stunning covers depicting the Jungle Lord but this awesome image by the artistic genius Joe Kubert is my favorite.
Mr. Kubert provided the art on the covers and interiors of practically the entire DC run and it was a treat to behold every month.
As I close this post, you may be wondering why that leopard is so pi**ed off at our Jungle Lord.
I think it's got something to do with the fact that it looks like Tarzan is wearing a relative of the big cat.
That's a fashion faux pas in the the city as well as the jungle!

Hey Rob.. Do you guys buy or consign framed giclees, prints, original artwork, and out of print posters? Is any follower of this group interested? I could post pics at great liquidation prices!
Hello Question for the Artwork side of the house. Are there any artist freelancers in the area? Scott Snyder's writing class has an anthology project where students are doing 6 page short stories. (yes I am one of them) DM if interested.
Thank you Comic Logic Books & Artwork and Loading Snacks for the feature! I appreciate you guys so much! Make sure you guys follow them on Facebook and Instagram! 💜 https://www.facebook.com/comiclogicva https://www.facebook.com/LoadingSnacks/
The amazing folks at Comic Logic Books & Artwork are at Baltimore Comic Con (booth 1404), and I’m so honored to have my artwork for sale at their booth! (You can see some of my stuff in the pic behind them: Leeloo, Ayo (from Black Panther), Martian Manhunter, vintage Aquaman, and Batman 😎) They have tons of great comics and artwork from other awesome local artists like Meanie Mena Art and Rodney Roberts / ArtNerrd: The Art of Rodney Roberts. If you’re gonna be at the con, make sure to swing by booth 1404, say hey to these great folks, and grab some goodies! 🤩🧡🖤🎨
It was a scorcher of a day, but I made it out to Comic Logic Books & Artwork for their “Lot Con” and was able to reconnect with many members of my tribe. Notably, my Meanwhile at the Podcast co-host, George and I got to hang for a bit. It was great seeing everyone and catching up, but the highlight of my outing had to be the gift of some amazing original art from my friend Sam of Deans Family Productions. I continue to follow this kid’s artistic growth and am beyond proud and amazed at where she is now. These (Red Hood and The Mandalorian) are now treasured pieces in my collection. Thank you Sam for your friendship and generosity. Thank you J. Robert Deans and Elinda Harris Deans for bringing such a good person into this world. Until next time, friends. #artist #artistsoninstagram #redhood #starwars #themandalorian #comics #comicart #illustration #art #comiclogic #artnerrd
Powerpuff Ladies prints are in! I will be debuting these lovely ladies at Comic Logic Lot Con , hosted by Comic Logic Books & Artwork on July 11th, in person before I put them in my shop. I will have a limited run of them at the event. If you guys are local, come out and enjoy the day with us! It's an outdoor event with local artists, vendors, authors, food trucks and of course, COMICS. It'll be my very first event in person EVER. Visit the event page for more details! I hope to see you guys there! 💜

VADER V REN digital illustration from 2018. Still one of my favorites. This was created with Procreate on the iPad Pro. Small business Saturday! I have two new stickers coming in this week, Queen of Mars and Ventress! Free shipping when you spend $35 or more in my shop! Enter WELCOME for a 10% off code. (Not applicable to stickers and magnets.) I also have my art in two small business shops: Comic Logic Books & Artwork Fett's Toy Depot I'd love to add more newness to both these shops, so if you're local to them, please make sure to support them this holiday season! My schedule has and will continue to be crazy. I may not be able to work on art daily, but for 2021, I plan on focusing on it more. Pushing out more commissions, more prints, stickers, etc But for everyone who had commissioned me for original art or purchased from my shop so far, I am forever grateful. Your patience and encouragement mean the world to me. 💜
It's the last Friday in August and in some cultures it's a religious holiday. And if that's true, then those deities are probably kicking butt in GODKILLERS: WAR ON TERROR #5. Make a pilgrimage to your local comic shop and pick up your copy. Here are another half dozen shrines to the power of print: • Alien Worlds - San Pedro & San Antonio, TX • Comics Adventure - Milwaukie, OR • Galactic Greg's - Valparaiso, IN • Comic Logic Books & Artwork - Ashburn, VA • Time Warp Comics and Games - Cedar Grove, NJ • Dreamland Comics & Vinyl - Libertyville, IL
