From Athens our next stop was the iconic Greek island of Santorini where we stayed in the tiny village of Finikia that is under 10 mins walk to the touristy and very famous Oia. We fell in love with Finikia, it’s narrow alleyways, and the charming homes there. Our home was beautiful and made for some great picture spots. We loved the 3 restaurants that our host recommended in the village and tried all of them. Food was like everywhere else in Greece, delicious. We also visited one of the most famous vineyards of Santorini Domaine Sigalas, that’s technically in Oia but happened to be again walking distance from our Finikia home. Spectacular sunset views and amazing setting. Great start to Santorini even before we hit Oia!

Holy Meteora, the Lithopoilis (Stone City) of Stogai as it’s aptly called is about 225 miles from Athens. The monasteries of Meteora were built in the 14th and 15th centuries by monks on top of these unique rock pillars.

In the beginning, the monks lived as hermits and took shelter in the caves that were naturally formed inside these rocks. In the 14th century, they began to gather in communities and build monasteries perched on top of Meteora’s dramatic rock formations. Meteora means suspended in air. When driving towards it and as they come into view, these monasteries truly appear to be suspended in air.
Out of 24 monasteries only 6 remain active and are cared for by women and men monks. They are adorned with beautiful frescoes and have pretty gardens tended to by the monks.
We also visited the quaint, little town of Kalambaka next to Meteora and stopped there for a wonderful meal.
Meteora is a must for anyone visiting Greece. One of the highlights of our trip for sure.

I have been MIA on insta. Amongst the various reasons, our vacation was one. When I travel I usually do not post on social media as that takes up too much time away from other fun things I could be doing and almost feels like a chore! So, here are some belated pictures from our recent trip to the beautiful country of Greece 🇬🇷 We started in Athens where there’s history all around you, scores of judgemental cats everywhere, incredible food, quaint alleyways, and tons of graffiti (something the government is trying hard to control). It all made for a charming time in this historic city of Athena. These are just some glimpses of the city from our first couple of days there. More to follow.

The Banyan Tree is revered in Hindu culture and today is one of the days when you worship it and thank it for its gifts to humanity. These trees live for centuries and are considered the home of Brahma, the creator, and are also a symbol of immortality. It is also the symbol of dedication and commitment to marital bliss 😊
I love how most of the ancient civilizations believed in living in harmony with nature and worshipped the earth and all of its bounty including the flora and fauna and thanked it for all their gifts to us.

A relic from the past! One of the earliest Graduation cake toppers that I made back in 2012. I have come a long way since then in terms of detailing and photography skills I must say. It’s fun to see some of these old toppers though and reminisce about the journey.

This live edge coffee table was one project that had been pending. I was finally able to finish it! Absolutely love the texture and grains on this walnut wood. The tree stumps I used as legs are also walnut. It has a different color and texture than the other tree stumps I have accumulated over the years which are primarily oaks. This table adds so much character to our living room and also makes it cozy for those evenings when we have a glass of wine here as we listen to some old vinyls, or when I force my family to do poetry evenings in the room 😁

I had the privilege of making this beautiful cake topper for a literary themed wedding a few years back. It continues to be one of my favorite toppers. The bride was an absolute delight to work with. In this day and age of Technology and dwindling popularity of books, designing and making something for a couple who not only enjoy books and reading but also based their entire wedding on a literary theme was just heartwarming. Their love story was adorable. We need more people like them. Her reaction to the topper, and her reviews post wedding brought tears to my eyes. One of my most memorable customers and works. ❤️

A custom made fairy house for a sweet little fairy obsessed 6 yr old. I loved making this for her. Everything, including the little house itself, is made from scratch. There is a little fairy sitting on the roof saying Hi to her as she stands downstairs waiting to spot one :) This house was gifted complete with a fairy letter and another tiny fairy 🧚‍♀️ It made for a very excited little girl.

This is one of my favorite cake toppers. Made this some years ago for a customer. She wanted a birthday topper for her little book lover.
Sometimes we forget just how much joy is there in little things. Curling up with a good book is in my top 5!

Here’s a brief glimpse into the very involved and intricate process of making a cake topper, though this only shows snippets since I am never able to take pictures while making.
There are a series of steps starting with sketching out ideas for what the topper should look like, then sculpting the clay figures and other accessories, baking them, followed by details of painting, drawing finer details on the baked clay pieces itself, and finally putting it all together. Enjoy!😊

Happy Holi! Wishes for a colorful and delicious Holi to all who celebrate. This Hindu Festival, like many others, celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Holi also celebrates the arrival of Spring according to the lunar calendar. People shower each other with colors or even flowers. In India, streets turn colorful and you see people walking around colored from head to toe. And like all of our festivals, food is also integral to celebration. The traditional sweet of Holi is Gujhia. The crisp, deep fried, dough is filled with a special mix of Indian cheese, nuts, coconut, cardamom, and sugar. I grew up enjoying this special treat at home and at all of the relatives places we would visit around that time. Over the years I learnt the recipe from my mom and MiL and now it’s my family’s favorite too. I love these traditions that transcend generations. I hope to continue making these treats for my family and friends for many many years.

May your Holi be filled with vibrant colors, joy, good health, and may prosperity come knocking at your doors this festive season.

My favorite 18 year old’s birthday cake topper ❤️ Custom made to reflect current phase of his life which is all about college decisions.
I love looking at the cake toppers I have made over the years with each one capturing that year’s unique phase, be it their interests, hobbies, clothes, and/or things they were into. It’s such a joy to see my kids personalities and those of their toppers evolving over the years.

A thrift store lamp revamped and fit perfectly in the little nook in the hallway. At $1.50 I figured I had nothing to lose if it turned out ugly, but I love the transformation. And it works well in the space. Some spray paint and voila! It’s like new. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

This has to be my all time favorite set. This Jazz Quarter was a Christmas gift to my son and he was finally able to find enough time to finish it. It’s absolutely fantastic. The details on it are mind blowing. I am in awe of Lego designers and their creativity.

I had no clue my almost 18 year old also knew how to use my sewing machine! He never ceases to amaze me with his thirst to learn new things. He bought these Birkenstocks and then made these cool straps to go on top of the existing straps to give it more character and a customized flavor. I think it looks great! He used scraps and old clothes from what I had lying around and small piece of leather from a Jean label. So cool!

I helped him figure out how to do some of the installs as well as the right supplies/materials choices for our project. I ended up ordering almost all of the supplies myself!
