We know parking in OTR can be iffy, but our Director of Facilities Rick Wolhoy found a spot for his 1958 Renault on the side of our building! 😏 Come check his installation out!

This book was a commission from the Art Academy of Cincinnati (one of my Alma Maters) for their Dean of Student Affairs retirement. They asked all AAC Alumni to produce a miniature piece of art for her. Then had me bind them into a book using archival preservation methods, and calligraphy the artist name on each page. The caveat was that one student submitted a painting on masonite and one submitted a piece on stretched canvas so the depth had to be compensated for. I used 8 ply rag for the book cover and the build ups. I used handmade cotton paper and canvas to wrap the cover and pages and muck as adhesive. Each piece is mounted with archival corner mounts, or in the case of the 2 with depth I did a sink mount. All art is removable.

How about a little digital restoration for the day? The original is stuck to glass. You can see in the original where the glass was broken. I had to scan with glass still on it because it was stuck so badly. On the right are rust stains from the metal frame it was in. It's acid burned from cardboard backing, stained and faded as well. Customer asked if i could add a little color like the 'old time pictures'.

This will go down in history as the wall that nearly killed me. It took about 6 hours to lay out and execute. it was my third and last stop of the day (the other 2 were easy peasy). My ladder is 47 pounds and was not fully extended but this wall was taller than the 17 foot reach as an A frame. it was 99 degrees that day and by the end i was sure i was dying. i thought i had heat exhaustion and slept til 10 the next day but had a full day in my shop so i mustered the strength and got to it. i worked til 4 then took my girl to the luke Bryan concert at 6. it was still about 95 at sundown. i was miserable. i slept til noon on friday, woke up long enough to shower then slept again til 7 pm. turns out it was not heat exhaustion it was not only covid but shingles as well. ive now slept for nearly a week and am starting to feel human again. although the shingles admittedly is kicking my butt.

Beast of the Day: I know y’all have been holding your breath waiting for this update. The beast is done! 6 men, one woman, a 3 tiered scaffold, 2 custom cleats and a lot of sweat and anxiety got this bad boy up. We couldn’t use a lift because the floors are marble tile and cant support the weight. Aside from the obvious size of the art ( it probably only weighed about 100 pounds) the difficulty was two fold; 1. the bottom would hit right at 12 feet 6 inches and 2. the art is 3 dimensional and front heavy. This made for an interesting set up since the mantle stuck out about a foot and the art was about 12” deep itself, so the scaffold had to sit approximately 2.5 feet away from the wall to get it up there. Thanks to the guys at Bonsai out of Baltimore for their expertise. We took down the small one and relocated it then hing the stunning multi media piece by world famous Nigerian artist Abiola Akintola. in sheer releif of getting this done i forgot to get pics of the room all put back together. stand by though, i’ll snap some next time I’m out there.

Beast of the Day: Actually it shouldve been a beast but wasn’t thanks to Donald Henry Dusinberre. This type of gallery wall is super popular right now with collections of family photos, awards, kids art or like this one (and my personal favorite) art collected while on travel. It took about an hour to layout and execute with Donald’s help and would’ve taken about 2 otherwise. All with no extra holes in the wall. 😁

Had the pleasure of installing this little collage for 97 year old Ethel. It took longer than expected but I took my time as she told me the wonderful story behind each piece, where, when and why she purchased them. She still LOVES every piece she ever bought because she purchases from the gut. Turns out shes the step sister of - yet another tie to home. Today the world got a helluva lot smaller and i was blessed to meet this kind soul.💜

framed using conservation materials too...

A still life gouache painting of a potted lilly with purple blooms and an ornate pot. Framed with acid free silk mat and traditional antique black with gold lip panel frame and conservation glass and backing. I do not make prints of any of my work. This is one of a kind.

Beast of the day: and not like the usual beast. Mass made pre fab art is more often than not out of square and also warped. Getting these items to line up is tedious. Especially for the average Joe since hanging hardware is included but not installed. I always like educate the customer before hanging so they are aware of what practical expectations are. This type of art is not always cheap either!!! so no disrespect to the collector at all. But is in fact an “it is what it is” scenario”

hi Jupey..checking out your page! :-)
Such an amazing Valentines gift!!!!
To give some perspective: The picture on the right is a full sized Kimono so it's about 4.5 feet tall. Stairwells are always interesting to hang art in.
With all the goings on about the globe i thought it might be a good time to repost this old piece. Historically, growing up in Cincinnati, OH every Christmas it was 'the thing to do' to go downtown and see all of the christmas decorations. the tyler davidson fountain on fountain square was always transformed into a HUGE christmas tree and all the stores had special displays in their windows. It was a magical winter wonderland every year. That is, Until the day came where the K*K decided that it was their 'religious right' to add a white cross to the square. :( At which point the town was at an impasse for freedom of religion and decided that moving forward no decorations would be added since they couldnt disallow one 'religion' but allow another. It ruined many a christmas tradition.

The piece is called Melting Pot Stew: a recipe for ignorance and hatred, and the poem that accompanies this piece reads as follows:

Knot the flag boys, lure 'em in.
Grab hood and sheet and lets begin.
Heat the cauldron with books aflame.
Hate and ignorance ...that's our game

A dash of violence, HeCK use a lot,
the press'll stir our melting pot
Washington supplies the spoons
and beats on Kings with L.A. goons

Stuff with wives inside the home
Shred their rights raise kids as clones
add to schools which team em nil
learn our youth to maim and kill

distill until the pot is pure
pass it off as soup du jour
killing others in HIS name
nevermind our bloods the same
This is a lifetime of travels collection of masks. I hung them high up in their stairwell.
ARTISTS BEWARE: This guy originally contacted me via Thumbtack in January. He posted a job. I and several other professionals bid on it at a rate of about $6 per bid. He contacted me with the information on the picture. Insisted to only correspond via email, wanted a 2 week turnaround on a 30 x 40" painting on canvas and offered $1000 extra to cover courier.

today, 2 months later, he contacted me directly via text (from my facebook business page) and asked me to email him. when i responded he sent me the SAME exact email with the same exact pictrue. Ironically the urgent need of the anniversary the first week in February is now is urgent again for a new anniversary. so he's either polygamous or scamming.

i'd say scamming. emails sources are not identifiable. anyone can make any email LOOK like it's coming from somewhere it's not.

these guys are wasting time and money and effort of our fellow artists. Hopefully none of you fall for this.
ARTISTS BEWARE OF SCAMS: This guy posted a job on Thumbtack, which professionals pay good money to bid on. My first contact with him was from there. I paid approximately $6 to bid on this job. He contacted me and sent this message. then proceeded to request it in an unusually short time frame for a 30x40" canvas. then offered to send $1000 extra to cover delivery and pick up by a car service.

He sent me a message today (two months later) by text asking me to email him. He got my number from my FB business page. when i contacted him he sent me the SAME exact message as last time.

So the urgent need for the anniversary in March is still an urgent need apparently. i've noticed that they'll send generic pics they want copied, always in a hurry, and always offer extra because of x, y or z. the money orders only come back as fraudulent after you've already done the work and delivered the art.

no , i did not fall for this. but i'm sure others have. otherwise they wouldnt keep doing it.
Hey Folks: I don't have a website yet. still working on it. :) some have asked. Hopefully by the end of this year.
