The breath sits at the intersection of body and mind.

It can reflect how we feel, and it can also help influence how we feel.

That’s part of what makes breath practice so powerful.

Pranayama is the traditional yogic practice of working intentionally with the breath. Breathwork is a wider umbrella that includes pranayama as well as other modern and therapeutic approaches.

Swipe through for a closer look at the difference and a few techniques you may encounter in practice.

You can explore both with us at Ebb & Flow:

Pranayama + Guided Meditation
Wednesdays 7:30 PM — Asbury Park
Tuesdays 7:15 PM — Point Pleasant Beach

Breathwork with Sedona Young The Connected Dreamers
Select Wednesdays 7:30 PM — Asbury Park
(Check MINDBODY for dates)

Stress often begins in the space between what is and what we wish were different.

In Vedanta, desire can be understood as a movement of the mind toward something we believe will make this moment better, more complete, or more acceptable. When that desire is blocked or unfulfilled, the mind becomes agitated.

So maybe the answer isn’t getting everything we want.

Maybe it’s wanting less. Choosing better desires. Directing our energy toward growth, wisdom, service, connection, and the things that actually deepen us.

And practicing gratitude.

Because in a moment of genuine gratitude, the mind stops arguing with what is. There is nothing missing. Nothing that needs to change before we can be here.

Less grasping. More gratitude. A little more peace.

Come practice with us at Ebb & Flow and take your yoga beyond the physical poses. Move, breathe, reflect, and explore how you can take your practice deeper, both on and off the mat.

Ever wonder why you leave a sound bath feeling like you’re floating? ✨

There’s actually some science behind that feeling.

Slow, repetitive sound can help guide the nervous system and brain toward slower rhythms through a process called entrainment—moving us out of the busy, thinking mind and toward alpha and theta brainwave states associated with deep relaxation, meditation, imagery, creativity, and that dreamy space between waking and sleep.

Swipe through for a little deeper dive into what may be happening in your brain + body while you’re lying there listening to the bowls. →

Then come experience it for yourself:

If you think yoga is just stretching, you might be underestimating the practice.

Yes, yoga can improve flexibility. But it is also amazing for building strength, mobility, balance, coordination + body awareness. It’s also diverse and has many different approaches- it can be challenging and sweaty, slow and meditative, or gentle and restorative.

And its benefits extend beyond the physical.

Research continues to find connections between yoga and mental well-being. In one randomized study, adults who practiced hot yoga at least twice a week for 8 weeks experienced significantly greater reductions in depressive symptoms than a waitlist control group.

But yoga isn’t a new wellness or fitness trend.

It’s a practice that has evolved over thousands of years around something we’re all still working on today: how to work with our own minds.

How to become more present.
How to quiet some of the noise.
How to meet discomfort with greater steadiness.
How to cultivate more peace + contentment in everyday life.

And yes, as a bonus, you’ll probably get more flexible along the way.

For Michele, yoga off the mat is found in the simple moments—watching the sunrise, spending time in nature, and slowing down enough to be present and enjoy it all

Practice hot 26 with Michele:
Tuesday @ 5:30pm in Asbury Park
Thursday @ 5:30 pm in Point Pleasant Beach
Friday @ 6:30 am in Asbury Park

Why do we encourage you to pull an oracle card after class? ✨

Not because we think a card holds all the answers.

But because after you practice, after you’ve moved, breathed, gotten quiet, and stepped away from the noise of the day, you’re often a little more open. A little more present. A little more able to hear yourself.

Pulling a card can be a simple practice of reflection. A word, an image, or a message might spark a thought, bring something into your awareness, or help you name what you’ve been feeling.

Maybe it resonates deeply. Maybe it doesn’t. Either way, the practice is in pausing long enough to notice.

That’s why we love having the oracle decks in our lounge. Stay a few extra minutes after class. Have some tea. Pull a card. Sit by the fire. Let your practice have a little space to settle before you head back into the rest of your day.

Because sometimes the most meaningful part of practice happens after you roll up your mat. 🤍
