I was inspired by Amy Lee’s story about recovering from a feeding disorder as a korean woman. I suffered from one too, and it’s so powerful to hear her speak on her experience.

Phoenix - 36x48 - on display in the CHOICE exhibit at . CW: birth trauma - I don’t often like to talk about why I paint what I paint in specifics, but this is one I feel benefits from the conversation. I was inspired by a pose in one of my figure drawing reference books and started drawing her - she was open and powerful all the same. The piece was started before my oldest was born and completed well after losing the experiences I had wanted with both births - I was treated as only a vessel by one care team who was supposed to care for me too. I saw my body split open, and in my second birth, I suffered a hemorrhage in a repeat urgent C Section. Birth trauma is a very real thing, and everyone deserves a choice. I am so grateful for my two littles and the team that kept me alive when I was in danger. I’d love to hear what this means to you!

Both of my children are rainbow babies. I experienced two early pregnancy losses. I never knew their names, but I choose to believe that my children embody their lost siblings. This piece is on display at for the CHOICE exhibit.
