As previously mentioned, today we are celebrating our longtime ceramics member, Alice Conrad. She is celebrating her 100th birthday today!

Alice was trained in Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement in which nature and humanity are brought together. Ikebana often emphasizes other areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, and form. And being a ceramic artist she create the vessels to support and enhance the arrangements. These two examples are Alice’s work from an 2012 Ikebana show.

It’s not every day someone you know turns 100! I would like to introduce to you Alice Conrad, a longtime Arlington resident who joined LAC as a ceramics member in 1992 and today is celebrating her 100th birthday!

While we can’t physically celebrate with her today we have sent flowers, cards, emails and now will be posting photos throughout the day to help celebrate Alice with everyone.

Please join us in wishing her a day filled with laughter, smiles, and love, exactly what she has given the world for the past ten decades! Have a very Happy Birthday, Alice!

GRUMP at Home will run from November 27 through December 1, just in time to coincide with on Sunday, November 29th. A nationwide initiative to encourage people to shop art for the holidays!.

As you might know, we would have hosted our annual show and sale this past weekend but were unable to do so because we have been closed due to the pandemic.

We have put together a listing of our members (link below). Please check out their websites, a few have webstores; there are links to other regional events and shows our members are participating in, and their social media accounts are listed so give them a follow.

While none of this can replace our much loved venue and event, it is a virtual space where you can reconnect with your favorite local artist.

Devoted F.C. Community Activist Barb Cram Dies - Falls Church News-Press Online

Barb Cram was a friend, a force, and she worked tirelessly for the arts in Northern Virginia. She will be missed.

Barbara Cram, the dedicated and tireless community doer of good in Falls Church for decades, died at her home surrounded by her family Tuesday morning, according to a report from Sally Cole of the F.C. Chamber of Commerce, who was in direct touch with the daughter, Stacy Fierce.

The James Renwick Alliance now is accepting applications for the 2019 Chrysalis Award, which will be given to an emerging artist working in mixed media. The winning artist will receive $5,000, an opportunity to meet with other artists, collectors, and JRA members in the Washington, DC area, and to give a formal presentation at a JRA event in November 2019. Back in 1995 we had a Bowl-A-Rama. 23 years later, on December 1, 2018 we are going to have an Empty Bowls - Throw-A-Thon! Our Empty Bowls will help support Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC)'s Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon to be held on February 3, 2019.

We are also a stop on the Lee Highway Alliance's Winter Festival of Lights December 1, 2018 from 11.30 - 2.30pm. Come on by, you can watch the ceramics members throw bowls for Empty Bowls and make a few holiday cards with the printmakers, while supplies last. Arlington Arts
