Hiya guys! It’s been a bit since I’ve posted anything lol. Shortly after my last post (over a year ago) I wasn’t feeling myself and couldn’t keep my mind focus. WELL, turns out I was pregnant! Nothing about the pregnancy was easy and took a toll on me physically as well as mentally. I gave birth to my daughter on 7-7-22, and that didn’t really go smoothly either. Since then I’ve been working through mental struggles and adjusting to life as a mom of 2. Now that my baby is almost 5 months, I finally feel myself coming back! I saw there was a art challenge of cartooning 4 people, so I chose to do my family (baby included lol). After not finishing a picture In over a year, I managed to get 4 done in about a week!! There are flaws, but I did it!! I wanted to prove that I could, so I did. I am pumped now more than ever to get back to studying and improving my art.

I hope y’all have been good this last year. I’ve missed posting and sharing, and hopefully I’ll be able To share more often now. I love you guys!

Today is a big deal for me. Today 100 days ago I took on the challenge from ! I marked everyday in my calendar, and eventually I didn’t want to break my streak. I just devoted to myself to draw for at least 5 minutes a day. Sometimes that’s all I had the energy to do. Most days I drew for quite a bit longer. I’m filling my sketchbook and learning and having the time of my life. I definitely plan on going for another 100 days!!

I did this illustration traditionally with colored pencils and alcohol markers. I’ve been neglecting my markers and I miss them. ❤️

I have been SO busy lately. I haven’t been drawing as much as I would like to, but I am still drawing. So that’s a win! Life seems to be settling down and I’m trying to incorporate some healthier habits (hello Beat Saber!) But drawing for me has become therapy. So I make it a priority to sit down for at least 5 minutes and doodle something. Here’s some studies I did from some Pinterest recommendations. I need to work on changing the face a bit so I don’t end up with same face syndrome.

When I started drawing these characters I had the intention of them being chibis. But the more I practiced and the more they evolved into what they wanted to be, they aren’t chibi lol. I’ve wrestled in my brain a bit, but in the end I think they are super cute cartoony characters that I am having a ton of fun drawing. It’s really fun kind of stumbling onto a style and letting it evolve on its own.

Kk slider!!! Another sketch done! This guy is, of course, going to be a sticker. Pretty much all of my finished drawings are. At least until I’m confident enough to work on prints. I struggled a lot. Particularly with him being in a non boring pose and stylizing him a bit. I still have so much to learn, but I’m happy with how he came out. I can’t wait to see what they announce for the update next Friday.

Stitches!!!! I tried a new technique for this guy in affinity designer and I’m so pleased with the results. Using vector I feel is really underrated, you should give it a try!

I just can’t seem to get his right hand just right. BUT I can’t really see what I’m doing anymore lol. I’ll try and fix it on my iPad where pencils don’t leave a mark on the paper. As a whole I’m really happy with this sketch. And I can’t wait to color him!

Just over a year ago I bought a sketchbook and made a promise to myself that I would fill this entire sketchbook no matter how long it took. (I binged a TON of sketchbook tours and was super inspired!) I decided since it was a year later, and I’m on my 3rd sketchbook, I would redraw the first character I drew in my first sketchbook! I used a how to draw chibis book. I decided to not draw her in my style since I really wanted to see how my observation skills have improved. I’m overall pretty have with the progress. The original sketch was done on my iPad so I cheated a little with digital shortcuts, the second one was just drawn onto Bristol board with a col-erase pencil. I’m still not comfortable with using ink for line work, and I think that shows lol. I much prefer colored pencils.

Anyway, I’m super happy to look back on my years progress, and I can’t wait to see where I’m at in another year!

It’s finally open!!!!! I’m so excited to be running an Etsy again. And along side my husband too! I’m so happy and thankful for the support you all have given us. ❤️ Anyway, here it is! LonestarOtaku is the new business name, and it is a mix of mine and my husbands drawn art. We plan on doing bi-weekly shop updates and I hope you guys will come along with us on this new endeavor! Another chibi done!!! I had a hard time with this one. You can see I changed a LOT from the original sketch. His eyes, hair, and whole body lol. I'm pretty happy with how this guy came out. My Aerith really needed her boy Zack. So now they can be together forever.

On another note, I mentioned last week about a shop. It will open this TUESDAY the 28th! The shop is a collaboration between my husband and I. We are both artists with big dreams, so it's natural we put our stuff together. Check back here on Tuesday for a post with the new shop link. It will no longer be Treno Nights, which is weird. So I'm not sure if I should make 2 pages, or just use this one for my personal art along with shop announcements. Would you guys mind seeing my husbands art too? I can always start a second page if that's best. I really dont know. lol.

I’m starting a course on form and perspective. I’m following . I feel like those are probably my weakest when it comes to fundamentals. So I’m very much looking forward to this course. This is my before drawing. It definitely could have come out worse, but I’m excited to see what I learn through this course. 🙂

From sketch to sticker! Seeing my drawings finished and I’m sticker form is a seriously addicting feeling! I love how my little Sailor Moon witch came out. Luna looks a bit annoyed at Usagi’s Halloween costume lol.

This is a portrait I did for my sister. Her cat recently passed away rather suddenly, so I wanted to make something special. She was happy with it, so that’s what matters most. 🥰

My biggest fear is that I’ll regret coloring my sketch. I don’t regret coloring in Luna, however I wish I had don’t a second layer of purple before I did the line work. I don’t usually use really saturated colors, so I wasn’t expecting the patchy ness. Either way I like the splash of color. ☺️

Sometimes when a convention doesn’t go as you had hoped, it’s easy to take it personally. “Aw man my art sucks.” Or “everyone must be a better artist than me.” We sold at a show for the first time in over 2 years this past weekend. As a whole the show was great. Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun, and a lot of vendors seemed to be making a lot of sales… except for us. I’m in the process of moving from sculpts to drawn art, while also collaborating with my husband as well. So it was a definite mix of art at our table. In the end I think the crowd just wasn’t for us. I’ve always sold the most at anime focused conventions. Plus our display and variety could be better, and to promote that we are two artists working together. As discouraging as the whole thing was, we were happy to be back at a convention. It would be easy to quit after a hard show, but it will be way more fun to keep drawing and bring our best next time. (Hopefully to an anime focused convention lol)

Oh, and my sons sign stole the show and I’m totally ok with that! 😂

A digital sketch I did yesterday. I almost never draw digitally and I totally feel like I cheated on my sketchbook. 😭 How do you guys prefer to draw? Traditional or digital?

I didn’t use a reference, and it shows. But I think this is a good baseline for working on more anatomy.

I’ve been playing around a bit with proportions with some chibis. Drawing all these mannequins were a lot of fun. I love that they look like a mouse without any hair. 🐭 ☺️

I have a new sticker!!! I’ve been slowly working towards making sticker designs to sell online and at shows. This is my newest one, the Deku mask from Majoras Mask! I started with a few pretty rough sketches and finally settles on this design. I then finished it on my iPad with affinity designer. I really love how this one came out.

I got a new sketchbook because my other new one is having some issues. It takes marker and watercolor great, but the paper starts to fall apart when I erase. Which stinks. So I found this new one at target for $5 and figured what the heck?! It’s probably not perfect for mixed media projects, but I think this little chibi came out fine. I used , colored pencils, and some water color pencils. There’s definitely bleeding to the other side, and it would have gone through to the other sheet if I blended a lot. Overall I’m pretty pleased, it’s not patchy and I can erase pencil when needed. This is a MUCH bigger sketchbook than I’m used to. So it’s going to take me a while to get through this one.

I’ve also been working on learning how to do 3D work. This was a project I did in Blender while following a course on Udemy. It was a ton of fun and I’m still learning so much. I may not be able to sculpt traditionally, but I’m learning digitally!

I've had a LOT going on this week. I've made it a point to still sit down and draw everyday, but honestly a lot of it isn't good lol. However, I'm pretty please with this puppy, even though it doesn't look like a puppy, more like a dog. I'm finding I am really enjoying drawing animals, which I wasn't expecting to like so much. 😬

I drew these guys back when I posted my Deku and Ochako sketches a while back. I thought it might be fun to color them digitally a little bit and see how they go. I'm pretty happy with the turn out, plus it's a lot of fun to not have too much pressure for it to be perfect. Clearly I got confused with Bakugo's outfit so I just stopped lol.

These past few weeks my husband and I have been trying to make high quality stickers from home with the tools we already have (printer, cricut, etc). So far we have found that printing on vinyl for a laser printer and then sealing with a UV spray has been the best at creating high quality stickers! These mario designs are some of my first tests.

I first drew them out in my sketchbook, and then I colored them using Affinity Designer on my ipad. I've really been enjoying using Designer lately. It's vector based, so you use it a bit differently then you would use procreate. I'm enjoying it and I would reccomend it to anybody!

This was one of the drawings from my first week of ! I actually followed along with Kesh and him drawing this dog and trying to absorb how he analyzes his references. These posts have been a little out of order, but I feel like my observation is getting better the more I practice using references.

Enjoy your weekend! Next week my son goes back to school (the first grade!! 😭) so my week will be a little crazy, but also a little quieter. Which is a good and sad thing.

I really wish I would have taken a picture of the sketch before I colored it. I'm not totally displeased with the color, but I did like the sketch better. However, I did want to experiment and it was fun and I can see I have some work to do if I want to make fur with my . This little doggy is so cute, and I wish I had done him more justice with my drawing. I definetly want to revisit this reference again. The fuzziness is just too much!!! 😭

Another fun animal sketch! This guy I actually drew 3 times. Trying to simplify and exaggerate on different things. The first I drew digitally, which solidified my not liking to sketch digitally. I really prefer it traditionally, but I'm still trying to adjust to digital. My last little head was my favorite, and the most cartoony. I need to do some more practices of this where I use the same reference and draw a little more exaggerated each time until I find the shortcuts and style I'm happy with.

BTW dachshunds are my absolute favorite. I love them so much!!! 😭

(First sketch was done digitally in procreate, and the last 2 were traditionally in my sketchbook with a pink col-erase pencil. Reference from pintrest.)

Like a lot of little kids, my son is obsessed with Minecraft. I enjoy it to, mostly because I love sharing it with him. It special and I'll always cherish my Minecraft memories. He's been asking to draw more and more Minecraft stuff, so I decided it's great practive for perspective! So I drew out my perspective grid, and I was so excited! Then I threw it all away because I wanted to draw this fox so badly and I don't really understand perspective... like at all. (I'm working on it lol) So I studied this picture from the reference, really trying to make sure the angles lined up properly. I'm horrible at drawing cubes, so I was actually pretty pleased with how this came out. I then colored with alcohol markers and did the lineart with colored pencils. I kinda messed up with the tree in the background, so I painted over it with some gouache paint and colored pencils. I really love the pastel colors with the navy blue lineart.

I've been following a few different courses here and there on my journey to learning how to draw. My most recent one is the course. I feel like I am learning so much, with minimal effort if that makes sense. I just really like how it's broken down. This is my before and after for my first week. There are things I like in both pictures, but I can see an improvement with my lines and shapes in the second one for sure. I'm also really enjoying starting to draw animals, so be prepared for some more of those lol. What are your favorite things to draw or create?

What's up guys! I finally feel like I am able to share my learning to draw and other art stuff with you guys. It's a process, and it's not always pretty, but I plan to share the ugly and the beautiful with ya'll. Learning is something that has become so fun for me, and frankly its an addiction. I'm working a lot for learning the fundamentals of drawing and character design. Along with that I am also working on learning the 3d software, .official , which has been a lot of fun. Going from a traditional sculptor to a digital one is pretty interesting lol. I plan on sharing some daily sketches, along with exercises and even finished projects that are personal or from classes. I think this is the best way to document my growth, and show you guys that learning stuff isn't glamerous. I'm trying to learn a new skill and potentialy build a career in my 30's. (Which to some may seem like its too late lol.) Join me on my journey friends, I would love to have you along!

My mind has been a mess lately, but I am still creating. I’ve been working on stickers for a small upcoming show I have. Since I won’t have any new clay work, I need to bust out some more drawn work. Honestly the Bob-omb is my favorite. I have a few more Mario baddies I’m working on in that style. The Creeper is for my son, but now I want to do other mobs. The cows from Story of Seasons were actually colored traditionally with alcohol markers and colored pencils. I will definitely be making more of those because I really love the colors. I’m definitely not set in any kind of style. I do what feels good for the moment while constantly trying to learn new techniques and skills.

Ahhhhh!!! I worked hard on this video to post yesterday. I’m starting a thing called time lapse Tuesday, and I can’t believe I forgot. I was pretty busy.. so anyway. Here’s a time lapse Tuesday video on Wednesday 😂. I’m working on that base for the Isabelle figure I’m working on.

Here’s a short video on how I make my grass texture. I use a small ball tool and work in little circles. You don’t want to push too light or too hard. I also remove the excess clay, I usually use that for extra grass on rocks or something. . I let this base sit out overnight so the clay was really cold and I had a hard time starting it up. I also can’t do too much grass at once because if flares up my carpal tunnel, and nobody wants that lol.
