2025 SEASON BYLAWS & DETAILS
LEAGUE QUICK FACTS
- Arlington Lanes, Arlington Heights, Illinois
- Thursdays, 7:00 pm warm-up, 7:10 pm game 1 start
- 2025 season start May 15th, finish August 14th, no weeks off mid-season
- 14 weeks, 5 games per week, 1 active bowler per team
- $25 fees per week, plus one-time $30 Ultimate entry = $380 total
- Tenpin bowling, humans only

FINANCIALS
- Total due for the season is $380:
- Weekly cost is $25 per bowler, for 14 weeks totaling $350.
- The Ultimate competition requires a separate, one-time entry fee of $30.
- The total of $380 will be due by the start of bowling week 12, July 31st.
- Any bowler more than two weeks in arrears cannot win match points.
- Any fees not collected by August 1st will be deducted from the bowler's prize fund at a 150% rate.
- Any fines or penalties for league by-law violations are added to the league prize fund.
FORMAT
- Each bowler will bowl five match-play games per session, in three sections:
- Game 1 is based on position in the main standings.
- Games 2 & 3 are the first scheduled match.
- Games 4 & 5 are the second scheduled match.
- A bowler's two scheduled matches are always rolled on different pairs, including when pre-bowling.
- There are no practice shots after game 1.
- Pro-style heads-up game play is used, alternating two frames at a time except the first and last.
- The higher-seeded bowler has choice of order in the first game of the match.
- In the second game of the match, the bowling order is reversed from the first game.
SCORING
- Handicap is 90% from 230 with no negative cap or ten pin drop. All scoring includes handicap.
- League standings are determined by Petersen points, including match point and pinfall components:
- All 5 games are worth 2 match points each, and each two-game match is worth 1 match point.
- 5-game pinfall including handicap is divided by 100.
- Weekly total Petersen points = (pinfall/100) + match points.
ENTERING AVERAGES
- Arlington PPL Veterans from 2022-2024 use most recent PPL average.
- New bowlers use from 24-25: high house avg, then high book avg.
- All bowlers will use established 2025 PPL average after rolling 7 games, starting week 3.
THURSDAY NIGHT TIMELINE
- 7:00 – Warm-up begins
- 7:10 – Game 1 begins
- 7:20 – After this time, your opponent may mark you as absent at their discretion.
- 7:30 – After this time, you cannot start game 1.
- If you arrive later, you may join a game if your opponent has not yet completed their 5th frame.
ABSENCES
- Against an absent bowler or vacancy, your score-to-beat is your current league average minus ten pins.
- If you are absent, you can win no match points, and your total pinfall will be 200 per game.
TEAMS
- Team rosters have no limits and may be edited anytime but Thursdays 7-10 pm.
- Teams have one active bowler at any time, and changes must be declared prior to 7 pm Thursdays.
- Once a bowler is activated, they must be active at least 3 weeks during the season.
- Financial dealings will go through the week 1 active bowler, and are otherwise at the team's discretion.
PRE-BOWLING
- Pre-bowling is allowed for weeks 1 through 13, not for Finals week 14.
- You can bank pre-bowls. You may leave no more than one banked pre-bowl unused.
- You must notify the league in advance of your plans to pre-bowl. Note dates on your scoresheet.
- You are responsible for ensuring that you switch pairs before games 4 & 5.
- If you don't comply with these standards, you are subject to up to a 20-pin penalty for the week.
PRIZE FUND
- Prize fund remains after lineage and administrative fees are paid from the league fund.
- Prizes will be based on main standings (Peterson Points) after 14 weeks.
- Distribution of main prize fund will be published by week 3.
ULTIMATE BOWLER
- This competition is tracked separately from the main standings.
- Each bowler is matched against every other bowler in every game.
- Runs through week 13. Standings are based on total wins.
- Top 3 for the season and weekly winners will receive prizes.
MID-SEASON TOURNAMENT
- Will be on or close to week 7, after lane maintenance is complete.
- Position round will be played as usual, with remaining games in a tournament format.
- Game 1 scores will be ranked for seeding.
- Top 16 seeds fill out main tournament; Lowest 8 compete in secondary bracket.
- Bowlers will change lanes and opponents between games 2, 3, 4, and 5.
- Games remain worth 2 points; Match points based on tournament performance.
- Cash prizes: $350 distributed across both brackets.
RULES & NOTES
- No abuse of equipment or people will be tolerated, you will be mocked, penalized, and/or billed.
- You are responsible and may be penalized for the behavior of invited spectators.
- One lane courtesy is the policy, additional is at your discretion with no whining allowed.
- Score corrections must be made with the approval of your opponent.
- Confirm scores with your opponent before moving on.
- Scoring disputes should be addressed immediately at the lane with an officer present.
- USBC Rules of play are in use where applicable.
- Honor scores will be recognized; Series may be 1-2-3 or 3-4-5 games.
- No fi****ms, sabers, crossbows, or flamethrowers near the lanes.
