Yesterday the local Ikenobo group practiced the classical Aspidistra arrangement. This included a precise order placement with regards to the angle of the sun, the “side” of the leaves (they are asymmetrical) and of course the height and distance between leaves. We also practiced a nisshiuke arrangement, with less (but as strict) rules. A fascinating day!

Yesterday our local Ikenobo school created arrangements in the ‘boat’ style. The focus is on boats going off on a new journey, returning from a successful journey, or sitting peacefully at anchor. Elegant irises, lilies and even goldenrod were used to represent the sails of the boats.
