Art therapy didn’t start in textbooks.

This Women’s History Month, we’re honoring Georgette Seabrooke Powell. An artist, educator, and Art Therapy pioneer who helped bring creative expression into mental health spaces.

Best known for her work during the Harlem Renaissance, Seabrooke Powell later used art in therapeutic settings, demonstrating how creativity can support emotional expression, connection, and healing.

Her legacy reminds us that art has long been part of mental health care. The field of art therapy continues to grow because of early pioneers like her.

Black history is art therapy history.

During Black History Month, we honor the legacy of Lucille Venture, the first person in the United States to earn a PhD in art therapy. Her scholarship and leadership helped legitimize art therapy within academic and clinical spaces that had not yet recognized its depth or rigor.

Dr. Venture’s work expanded how the field understands creativity as a vehicle for psychological insight, cultural expression, and healing. She contributed to the professionalization of art therapy through research, teaching, and advocacy, shaping pathways for future clinicians and scholars.

Black clinicians and scholars have always influenced the evolution of mental health care, often without proportional recognition. This month is an opportunity to name that impact clearly and intentionally.

As we reflect on the roots of our profession, we acknowledge the scholars who built the foundation.

The season of the orange ish colors. All shades of orange made this painting dynamic and beautiful. Perhaps humans eyes and brains crave differences and dynamic uniqueness. Hope we could confront fear of being different, or fear of others being different and truly appreciate the beauty in our lives.

What challenges do trans people face? 1. Lack of legal protection. 2. Stigma, harassment and discrimination. 3. Violence Against teams people. 4. Identity documents.

Also, lack of health care coverage and proverty will add the barriers to getting trans people basic needs met. People of color has higher rate of being discriminated, harrassed, and accessing resources.

Till May 25th is Day 145 of the year, and here in the US has already experienced 213 mass shootings. Im 21 weeks, averages out to about 10 a week.

How do we keep our children safe??!
What are the warning signs of those planned shootings?
