As the Mile of Music Festival readies to commemorate its “Mile-stone” 10th festival in August 2023, Appleton Community Music, Inc. a recently formed non-profit organization, is working to help sustain the nationally celebrated event and the vibe it brings to Downtown Appleton for not just another decade, but well into the future.

Appleton Community Music, Inc. (ACM) – is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded to provide fundraising support for the four-day summer festival and for other original music experiences throughout the year in Downtown Appleton.

Made up of a 12-member board of directors, ACM’s funding focuses on the following areas:
🎵Performance fees for the over 200 acts that play the festival
🎵Artist hospitality, including lodging and meals over the four days
🎵Artist care, including supporting and promoting the dental, wellness and personal care initiative offered during the Mile of Music festival, which has drawn accolades from the national music community
🥁Music Education at the Festival, which includes interactive music-making experiences for participants of all ages while focusing on building inclusion, diversity and community through music
🫶Supporting Mile volunteers, including coordination assistance for the 500-plus festival helpers

Kicking off Appleton Community Music’s 2023 fundraising effort is a $50,000 gift from the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region /David L. and Rita E. Nelson Family Fund, which also provided the same catalyst funding to support the artists at last August’s Mile 9.

If you missed Gyasi at Mile 9, we don't want you to make the same mistake twice! 😉 Join us on December 30 for New Year's Encore Eve Eve at the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley!

About Gyasi: Pronounced Jah-see, Gyasi seems in many ways to come from another planet, and being raised in the woods of a West Virginia holler might as well be another planet in this day and age. His parents bought him a guitar at a local flea market when he was six years old and he still hasn’t gotten rid of the fleas, or the guitar. He approaches his music as an all-encompassing art piece, using fashion, storytelling, and his guitar to create a world for his music. His debut full length vinyl is out now on Alive Records. Inspired by a wide range of art and culture both past and present, his work is fueled by an undeniable passion to create music that brings rock n roll into the 21st century. Gyasi is a modern rock star like no other.

Mile of Music Presents won't be hosting a Rhythms & Brews show tomorrow (November 23), but we wanted to share a special event taking place tomorrow night at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee to honor Mile of Music alumni Keith Pulvermacher.

Keith Pulvermacher lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells) on July 30, 2022. Keith touched many lives in the music community, including many in the Mile community.

Check out the full details on the event & ways to support below!

Hey all! While we won't be holding Rhythms & Brews on November 23 to give our team some extra time off for the holiday, we wanted to share a special event that's near and dear to the hearts of many members of the Mile Family.

As some of you may know, Mile 7/Mile Presents alumni Keith Pulvermacher lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells) on July 30, 2022. Keith touched many lives in the music community.

On November 23 at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee, the Keith Pulvermacher Band & many friends will host "For Keith: Keep On Keepin' On," where the Keith Pulvermacher Band will perform his latest album "45 Story" in its entirety.

All proceeds for the event will go to the Isabella and Sophia Pulvermacher Future Fund, a trust set up for Keith's daughters.

Full information on the event and how to support can be found here: https://www.pabsttheatergroup.com/events/detail/for-keith-2022

(Mile of Music is not a producer of this event, but we wanted to share for fans of Keith who would like to support the cause.)

Holy. Cow.

Thank you for the incredible response to our Mile 10 (2023) New Artist Submission Form. We are sorry to share that the submission process for new artists to be considered for Mile 10 has already reached (and exceeded) the maximum, so we have closed the submission portal. To say that we are humbled by this overwhelming response from potential new artists would be an understatement. A bit stunned might be a more apt description as this is, by far, the biggest response we have had for the open submission process since Mile of Music started in 2013.

Thanks to all the artists that submitted and to fans who encouraged their favorites artists and friends to submit.

If you did not get a chance to submit, we hope you'll stay tuned for our Mile 11 (2024) New Artist Submission form, which will launch on November 1, 2023.

About Mile of Music - Produced by Willems Marketing & Events, Inc.

Join us August 5-8, 2021 for Mile of Music! What happens when you combine a vibrant, one-mile stretch of Downtown Appleton, Wisconsin, with 200 up-and-coming artists performing live, FREE 100% original music over four days? You get to experience an unforgettable music-filled weekend with over 900 incredible shows! Mile of Music kicked off in 2013 as a cover-free festival highlighting handcrafted artistry. The theme quickly caught on with music lovers everywhere and is still the focus today as The Mile continues to make music accessible to everyone with nearly all shows FREE to attend. We welcome the finest talent, including singer-songwriters, combo and multi-piece bands showcasing original roots music ranging from indie rock and country to soul, R&B, jazz and folk. On top of that, we highlight homegrown talent and recruit the best emerging artists from all over the U.S. and even internationally. Along with providing plenty of opportunities to take in the music, attendees are encouraged to make music while they’re at The Mile, too! Our Music Education Team hosts dozens of hands-on music events like artist-led songwriting workshops and interactive drum circles. Mile of Music is a can’t-miss festival. With more than 85,000 people checking out The Mile in 2019 alone, we’re cultivating something one-of-a-kind in the Fox Cities community and getting quite the response. Mile of Music isn’t quite like any other festival you’ve experienced before. has been postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic. Intended dates are Aug. 5-8.

During Mile of Music, 60+ venues throughout Downtown Appleton play host to indoor and outdoor shows on stages of every size. Take time to explore the restaurants, shops, museums, bars and coffee shops along The Mile as there are fun stops at every turn! Profits from the Mile of Music Festival support two funds: The Mile of Music Education Fund, within the Appleton Education Foundation, funds more music opportunities within Appleton public schools. Creative Downtown Appleton, Inc. provides seed money for projects that will help color our creative economy and keep Downtown Appleton strong, vibrant and creative! Mile of Music is a civic organization, not a nonprofit. All profits, after expenses, will be split between the two funds noted above. All contributions are considered as sponsorships, not tax-deductible donations.

Also, huge thanks to all the bands, fans and staff that make this event possible. And of course a cool call out to the "Psychedelic Juggernaut Deeohgee." You always have safe landing in Appleton. Cheers 🍻

Thanks Rolling Stone for mentioning “Psychedelic Juggernaut Deeohgee” in the print version of your magazine (September 2022) and thanks Mile of Music Festival for always treating artists like rock stars.

ABSURD FLUKE MOMENT: went into the crowd at Mile of Music Festival to administer high-fives and my guitar string got caught on my friends purse zipper. It was so stuck I just left the guitar in the mosh pit and grabbed a second guitar to finish the song. Eventually a nice guitar-savvy citizen in the crowd pried it loose with a bottle opener a full five minutes later.

Also please observe how sweaty my back is I am sorry.

It’s been 1 week since we got home from Mile of Music Festival, and getting to perform our new version of Used to Call with Claire Kelly was truly special! If you didn’t get to see it, this might give you a sense of what it was like:

Mile of Music Festival - there’s nowhere and nothing like it. What a dream. THANK YOU to each kind soul I met - there were so very many. I’ll never forget this week for a multitude of reasons 💙 Not least for the music, the connection, the life affirming shows, the enthusiasm and kindness of the crowds, staff, volunteers and fellow artists, new friends, the artist care lavished upon us, the love and energy swirling in the air. The cheese curds! What an honour to be a part of it. Here’s a little overview of what the heck just happened in Appleton, Wisconsin. I’ll be floating on all this for a good while. Til next time 🙏 LOVE ❤️
