SPONSORS NEEDED! It's that time again! We are in need of sponsors for our end of year awards.
Our theatre students have lost so much this year. I went back and forth about whether or not to do the awards, but my seniors said it was important to them, so here we are. I will be omitting some of the usual awards, as you will see, as I don't think it would be fair or realistic to choose someone for those. All awards listed below will be presented this year.
With your donation, I will have a trophy custom-made for each winner that they can keep forever to commemorate their achievement in Annandale Theatre Company. This is always a highlight of our end of year ceremony. To sponsor an award, you can comment below with the name of the award(s) you would like to sponsor OR you may request to sponsor anonymously by sending me an email at [email protected]. I will communicated with sponsors directly to coordinate payment.
Sponsorship is $50 per trophy. Some trophies cost less, and some cost more, so I think this average price will balance out to cover the cost of all the trophies. Of course you can feel free to donate more than $50 if you feel compelled, but it is not necessary for sponsorship. Any extra money donated will be carried over to benefit next year's activities and productions. Feel free to sponsor as many trophies as you like!
OUTSTANDING PERFORMER
OUTSTANDING TECHNICIAN
COMPANY AWARD - someone who is a huge asset to the company in a number of ways. Lifts people up, pitches in wherever they can, etc.
ENSEMBLE STAR - a kid who stands out and improves every ensemble of which they are a part
RISING STAR - a freshman who has made a lasting mark and has shown promise that they will raise to greatness some day. For actors.
SHOOTING STAR - This award is for an actor who has done theatre for at least 2 years and has shown a great deal of progress in that time.

Introducing our next ITS Senior Spotlight: Claire Vaughn! Claire has been an active member of the department for four years and some of her roles include Grace in Cinderella, Congregant in Hunchback, Jojo in Seussical, and was to be playing Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act!

favorite theater memory: my favorite theater memory was cue to cue during suessical. the cast was having a great time and the whole project was coming together.
best advice: trust that everything happens for a reason.
future plans: i plan to attend auburn university in the fall and major in vocal performance with a premed track.

Next up in our ITS Senior Spotlights is Gaby Alarcon. She has been such a great member of ATC for the past four years. Some of her roles include being a cheerleader in She Kills Monsters, a gypsy in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and recently played the Ingenue in our regional advancing VHSL show A Dollar! Below is from her:

-My favorite theater moments were the rehearsals of any dance number and also performing the VHSL play “A Dollar” with theater 4 and winning second place in both, districts and regionals.
-My advice would be to try new things, make the most out every moment, and to always dance it out.
- For my post secondary plans, I will be attending Virginia Tech to major in accounting and information systems. And, I definitely plan to join dance or theater clubs.

I’m not making my usual big push for trophy sponsorships this year, since I know money is tight for many and there are much more pressing things in need of your donations. I just wanted to throw it out there that if anyone feels strongly about sponsoring an award (some sponsor every year or feel compelled to sponsor the award they won the previous year , etc) just reach out to me via text or email me at [email protected]. It is NOT vital that people sponsor as the Boosters have already agreed to cover the costs, but the less money they spend on this the more will go towards future opportunities for students.

I know to some physical trophies might seem a frivolous expense. To me... our kids have lost so much. They are hurting more than they let on. The more “normal” I can make their end of year traditions, the better. As always, I will post the winners once they are awarded!

Everyone stay safe, stay healthy, and wash your hands!

George Bennett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

A member of the Annandale Theatre community has passed on. Former theatre teacher George Bennett taught many students in his short time at AHS, many of whom continue to use the skills he taught them to benefit Annandale Theatre. I never knew George Bennett, but from what I hear he was an excellent theatre technician who inspired many to continue with technical theatre into adulthood. I have included his obituary below in case any of his former students would like to leave a memory on the memory wall on the website:

This Thursday (5/30/19) @ 7 PM Another Free Theater Performance + Talk Back Session from The Providence Players - James Lee Community Center Theater Falls Church 2855 Annandale Rd Falls Church
The Providence Players, an award winning, all volunteer, non-profit community theater troupe serving Northern Virginia and the DC Metropolitan area season close their 21st season with a delightful and creative ensemble comedy, Leaving Iowa written by Tim Clue and Spike Manton.
Simultaneously hilarious and touching,” Leaving Iowa portrays Don’s journey to return his father’s ashes to his childhood home, only to discover that Grandma’s house is now a grocery store. This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don’s memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood: the classic American summer vacation, which often meant being trapped in the back seat of a station wagon. Don’s memories bring to life the people of his past and present, weave a tale of reconciling idealism with reality, and ultimately show us what it means to love one’s family.
