Just reminiscing about our amazingly Foolish volunteer drum group- "the Buckettes!" It's always so wonderful to see so many of our friends coming together to help create the crazy fun energy that makes FestiFools so special. Until next year 🥹

Our Studio Assistant Avery hard at work (or hardly working?) cleaning and organizing in preparation for future creative projects! Thank you Avery, for all you do to make things happen in the studio (and bring a smile to our faces)!

We want to give a huge shoutout to our graduating student employees, Laila and Yuchen!
Laila has worked on FestiFools and LSWA projects as a Studio Assistant for four years - doing all the important dirty work that keeps the studio running behind-the-scenes. Not only has she been so helpful in keeping our studio space clean, but Laila is an incredible artist herself, often helping students along on their projects.
Yuchen has been our Media Assistant and official Foolish photographer for the past two years - almost all of the beautiful pictures you see on our page were made by her! It has been such a pleasure working with these two and we can't wait to see where their artistic careers take them. Laila and Yuchen, your presence in the studio will be so missed!
We wish the absolute best for Laila and Yuchen on their post-grad journeys, and hope that they'll make their way back to the studio for a visit one day 💛 Go Blue :)

The evolution of the FestiFools Studio over the course of a semester is an incredible thing to witness. You've seen it happen, each Saturday when you join us to volunteer! Luminaries and puppets grow from taking over tables, to the floors, rising into the air above our heads. Hundreds of busy hands join together over just a few months, embracing their creativity and making the space come alive.
After FestiFools is over, when the puppets' hour of Foolish glory is over and they remain only as visions dancing in our heads, when the work tables are put away and the floor is cleared (of all but a new layer of paint spattered across the floor), it's exciting to imagine what kinds of creations and experiences the clean slate will hold space for in the coming year.

It's National Volunteer Week, and it is so important for us to share how special our volunteers are to FestiFools and FoolMoon. Without you, these large scale creations, their public display, and the magical and Foolish hours we have on the street would be impossible. You hold us (and our giant puppets) up!
Let's hear it from some of our students this semester:

"My piece would not have been possible without the help of volunteers coming in and it was always so crazy seeing how much volunteers would get done over the weekend and how much our works would come to life in the times that we were gone." - Kelsey

"They basically did all the papier-mache for me, which is a huge accomplishment because it would have taken me FOREVERRRRRR to papier-mache by myself. I suppose that is one reason why events like FestiFools and FoolMoon attract such dedicated public support: they are not just looking at the individual work of the artist, but at the combination of the work of the community as a whole." -Arron

"Every time I wanted to give up, I thought of the people who pushed our piece even when they didn’t know what it was. We have so much help in the creative process, and it's so lovely to see what the creative community can do in AA. Now public art is love and community to me, having people be there for your vision, and it later on becomes our vision. I appreciate everyone so much." - Raven

"I’m proud to say I’m a public artist after being a part of both FoolMoon and FestiFools, which allowed me to interact with the city of Ann Arbor; the most positive influence this class had on me was the fact that we didn’t just do it for us. We did it for them, for every volunteer who dedicated their time to painting the limbs of our creative masterpieces, for every parent who drove their kids from near or far to be able to line up outside to see the parade, and for every child who looked forward to this event and interacted with our puppets with the biggest smile on their face." - Effe

Putting on our annual public art events takes a VILLAGE, and we are so grateful to have such wonderful, supportive community members that make up ours. Thank you thank you thank you and we hope to create with you again soon :)

I hope this photo shows how happy and thankful I am to be in the company of Larry and Lucie Nisson--two enormously generous donors who have given so much to help make FestiFools and FoolMoon possible! We are so lucky to have two of the kindest and most thoughtful Arts supporters living and giving in our community.

We had some special collaborations this year that we want to celebrate!

This winter, we worked with 50 5th grade students over at Dicken Elementary to build luminaries for FoolMoon - I mean, to help us return to planet Blork! Special thank you to Heather and Theresa for all of your work towards making this collaboration and completing the students' luminaries possible! Very special "KNAHT UOY" to all of the lovely students that joined us with their creations at FoolMoon! We are always so grateful to be able to extend our resources and Foolish activities into our community for some hands-on art making experiences :)

The FestiFools 20th Anniversary brought us back to the FOOLture with a robot business man, plague doctor, all-knowing octopus, and so many other wacky creations. Thanks so much for joining in our absurdity :-)

And thanks to Yuchen Wu for capturing all the FUN!
