Thank you to everyone who attended our 2nd Annual Drag Lotería fundraiser for Choosing Our Roots! And thank you to José Q***rvo, Sweet Rika, and Crybaby for sharing their talent, time, and artistry with us for a great cause. And shout out to our friends at The Continental for providing the space! We had so much fun with y’all. 🪅

You all helped raise $13,600 this weekend, giving CoR the ability to fully support 4 young q***r people in with housing security, groceries, transportation, deposits, and other services to support their independence and stability. 🌈🏠 And we surpassed last year’s fundraiser by $1,600! Cant wait for next year!

We love our friends at Choosing Our Roots and we’re so grateful to the whole team for their dedication to young q***r Alaskans, helping them find their roots and bloom into the people they were always meant to be.

It’s a privilege to support the vital work they do, and we encourage everyone to consider Choosing Our Roots when seeking local causes to support. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

🏳️‍🌈LGBTQIA2S+ ALASKANS! GO VOTE! 🏳️‍⚧️

Alaska is a unique place where we have open primaries, ranked choice voting in the general election, and a disproportionate amount of registered nonpartisan/ independent/ undeclared voters. Alaska is a place where your vote actually has a lot of power.

The ***rvotingbloc is estimated to be about 33,000+ Alaskans who are eligible voters. THAT IS REAL POWER. We just have to use it and fight like hell for what we believe in. When we move collectively, big change can happen.

No matter how you choose to vote, please go make your voice heard! Here is how we voted in ’s primary election:

🗳️ BALLOT MEASURE 1: YES ✅

We strongly believe that having Meda as a governor will put Alaska on the right path of healing, justice, and prosperity for our Alaska Native communities, LGBTQIA2S+ Alaskans, small businesses, and young people who want to grow their future here. Meda DeWitt is the only candidate with a detailed platform for LGBTQ+ rights and protections including plans for what she would do to codify our protections into law on day 1.

We would love nothing more than to see a compassionate, thoughtful, dedicated, brilliantly smart Alaska Native woman be the one to steward the future of Alaska.

Thank you all for being patient with us as we’ve taken a little hiatus from Arciniega Street work so we can help an incredible candidate get elected to serve our communities across Alaska.

IndigiVIBES featured so many different beautiful living examples of Q***r Indigenous excellence, and being in that studio together was a rare and powerful experience. ‘Grateful’ and ‘honored’ doesn’t begin to cover it. Being in the room to bear witness was such a gift.

One by one, the artists unfolded a heartfelt love letter to their communities, their ancestors, and themselves in real time - with bold and sincere regard for all the complexities, joy, pain, and perseverance that comes with it - and the community alchemy was palpable.

The moments of connection between the artists and audience were so deeply personal. It’s impossible to fathom how to speak to so many different truths and cover so much ground in a 2 hour show that’s mostly music and movement — covering topics like forced assimilation, cultural displacement, reclaiming language, culture,and identity, sexual liberation, MMIWG2S, two-spirit identity, HIV prevention and education, taking up more space, protecting what’s sacred, and authenticity as an act of resistance. But they did it so beautifully and thoughtfully.

Thank you to our partners at Native Movement, Momentum Studios, and The Movement Atrium as well as our production collaborators Cody Henrikson and Melissa Shaginoff for making this production possible. It was so special, and it couldn’t have happened without a lot of community passion and support.

To the cast: thank you for giving so much of yourselves to this project. Your joy, your grief, your beauty, your experiences and perspectives, your talent, your stories. We’re so grateful to each of you for leaning into the moment and soaking up every minute of it. This was a stunning body of work and it was all yours. One of the most impactful shows we’ve ever seen. ❣️

Lights Down Low revival, baybee 🎵 and what a perfect act to kick off the new era.

Afe Sapaleti and her band brought all the neo soul swagger with a healthy dose of island flavor taking a creative spin on R&B classics and new faves, and ending the night performing some of her originals that had the crowd bumpin even more than they were for the covers. We love, love, love to see it. Congrats to Afe on her first-ever SOLD OUT headlining show 🫶🏼

Such a powerful voice with such depth, texture, and emotional infusion from this young of an artist is a magical thing to witness. It’s equal parts natural talent, unrelenting hard work, intuitive artistic connection between bandmates, and ancestral love and guidance that make an artist like Afe shine the way she does. Lucky us that we got to step into her world for a night. It’s a beautiful place to be and the vibes are very right. 💯

Thank you Afe & band for sharing your talent with us. What a beautifully curated set. You’re incredible artists, each one of you. Pass the mic was CRAZY and you took us all to church in a way we didn’t know we needed. Thank you to the audience for understanding the assignment 🎶
