Betty McGuire, best remembered as Grandma Kate Malone on Growing Pains, has passed away at age 100. ❤️

Her death was announced today. She died October 8, 2026, of natural causes in Woodland Hills, California, according to her close friend Keith Gerchak.

Before becoming a familiar face on television, Betty appeared in the original Broadway productions of Plain and Fancy (1955), Happy Hunting (1956) with Ethel Merman, and Oh, Captain! (1958) with Tony Randall. She also starred as Mame at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and toured in musicals including Gypsy and Oliver!

In the 1980s, a new generation came to know her as Grandma Kate Malone on Growing Pains. Appearing from 1986 through 1991, Betty played the mother of Joanna Kerns’ character, Maggie Seaver, and grandmother to Mike, Carol, Ben, and Chrissy. Gordon Jump played her husband, Ed. For those of us who grew up gathering around the television for our favorite family sitcoms, she was a familiar face from those evenings spent watching the Seavers together.

Her career also included appearances on Columbo, Charlie’s Angels, Little House on the Prairie, Moonlighting, and many other familiar shows. Movie audiences may recognize her as Sister Mary Quacker in Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke or as a nurse in Coma.

ON THIS DATE: October 18, 1967, Disney’s Charlie the Lonesome Cougar was released in theaters, 59 years ago today! 🎬🐾

Narrated by Rex Allen, the live-action adventure follows an orphaned cougar adopted by a young forester in the Pacific Northwest. Life around a logging camp brings plenty of trouble as Charlie grows from a playful kitten into a full-grown cougar with wild instincts.

Moviegoers originally got two Disney animal adventures for the price of one. Charlie the Lonesome Cougar shared a double bill with The Jungle Book! 🍿

ON THIS DATE: October 18, 1982, EPCOT Computer Central was dedicated, 44 years ago today! 💻🌐

Located in CommuniCore East and sponsored by Sperry Univac, this exhibit gave guests a look at the working computers that helped keep EPCOT Center running. Back when many families had yet to own a home computer, Disney made this technology part of a day at the park!

Its original show, the Astuter Computer Revue, combined entertainment with a look at how those computers worked. Imagine visiting the park and discovering that the equipment in front of you was actually helping operate its attractions! 😃

It was a little piece of early EPCOT Center, when exploring the future was part of the vacation. ❤️

🎂 Happy 39th Birthday, Zac Efron! ❤️

Born October 18, 1987, in San Luis Obispo, California, Zac became a familiar face in homes everywhere as Troy Bolton in Disney Channel’s High School Musical in 2006. 🏀🎶

He returned for High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year, bringing more songs, dances, and memories with the East High Wildcats. For many families, those movies bring back memories of kids singing along to the television and favorite songs playing on repeat. ❤️

His musical roles also include Hairspray and The Greatest Showman, giving audiences even more reasons to sing along.

Join us in wishing Zac a wonderful 39th birthday and a year filled with happiness! 🎉

ON THIS DATE: October 18, 1967, Disney’s The Jungle Book was released in theaters, 59 years ago today! 🌿🐻

From Baloo’s “The Bare Necessities” to King Louie’s “I Wan’na Be Like You,” this classic gave us songs we’re still singing and characters we’ve loved since childhood. 🎶

Phil Harris brought Baloo to life, alongside Sebastian Cabot as Bagheera, Louis Prima as King Louie, and Sterling Holloway as Kaa.

The Jungle Book also holds a special place in Disney history as the last animated feature Walt Disney personally supervised. His influence lives on in a film that generations of families have enjoyed together. ❤️

Born October 18, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, Pam became a familiar face in our living rooms as Mindy McConnell on Mork & Mindy. Alongside Robin Williams, she gave us plenty of laughs as Mindy helped her visitor from Ork figure out life on Earth. 🛸

In the 1980s, she brought her warmth and humor to My Sister Sam, playing photographer Samantha Russell, whose teenage sister moved in with her.

Celebrating Chuck Berry on what would have been his 100th Birthday ❤️🎸

Born October 18, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, Chuck helped shape the sound of rock and roll. With songs like “Johnny B. Goode,” “Maybellene,” and “Roll Over Beethoven,” his guitar playing and unforgettable stage presence inspired generations of musicians.

His songs bring back memories of records spinning, radios turned up, and a time when rock and roll was still something new. And over the years, younger generations found their own memories in that familiar sound. 🎶

His recording of “Route 66” even helped bring the open road to life in Disney and Pixar’s Cars (2006), introducing his music to another generation of families. 🚗

Chuck passed away on March 18, 2017, at age 90, but his music continues to bring generations together.

Thank you for the music, the memories, and all those reasons to turn up the radio, Chuck. ❤️

Sad news to share. Michael Forest, remembered by generations of television fans as Apollo on the original Star Trek, has passed away at age 97. ❤️

Forest died on October 14, 2026. His friend James A. Brown shared the news of his passing.

His portrayal of the Greek god Apollo in the 1967 episode “Who Mourns for Adonais?” became one of his most recognizable roles. Classic television fans also knew him from appearances on The Twilight Zone, The Dick Van D**e Show, Gunsmoke, and Gilligan’s Island.

His career included Disney’s Zorro, where he played Anastacio alongside Guy Williams. He also portrayed General J. E. B. Stuart in Disney’s Willie and the Yank: The Mosby Raiders in 1967, appearing with a young Kurt Russell and James MacArthur. The production was also released theatrically overseas as Mosby’s Marauders.

Younger viewers may have known his voice as Olympius in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. Across decades of television, movies, and voice work, he reached generations of audiences.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone who loved his work. 🙏
