This next piece is the cowfish, and is also my business logo.
Thereโs not a huge sentimental story about the reasoning behind why I decided to call myself Cowfish Linocuts. Maybe because heโs weird, cute, and unserious all at the same time. I wanted a logo that could embody creativity, art, and weirdness. If you know me in real life, you know that Iโm not an artist by trade, my employment is in medicine, as a certified nurse midwife finishing up my DNP and as a nurse on a busy med surg unit. Despite this, I have always dreamed to make art more than a hobby because art has always been my happy place. I was drawn to linocutting for the simplicity of the black and white reliefs, the satisfaction from carving the little rubber shreds, and rolling the ink onto each piece.
Although I just started linocutting a few months ago, I have taken years of art classes (think soft pastels, oil painting camp, color pencils). Those many classes allowed me to explore so many media and built my basis of sketch and art form. I have always had a penchant for small and immense detail, so I actually thought that I would be a dentist or a surgeon, clearly the fine motor dexterity was meant for something else. Now I find inspiration everywhere, mostly in the fantastical nature here in the Pacific Northwest, but also in many other ecosystems. All these things are part of the story that lead me to linocutting. So glad to have you on my journey. Stay tuned for some fun new items, including fish bookmarks and other fun designs like orcas and shore crabs.
