Theatre Matters.
Theatre is fun, playful and entertaining. And invaluable to humanity’s social emotional wellbeing.
Theatre Matters. Deeply.
Why? Because from childhood we begin to understand our world, and ourselves in this world first through living pictures, also called The Imagination. We begin to explore our feelings through pictures that arise from within. Stepping into the story and its imaginative world grounds these feelings and oftentimes scary emotions into a physical reality.
Through pictures. Physical Pictures. Emotional Pictures, Theatre literally becomes a safe holding space for the depths of our emotional experiences. The space in which the story lives, suspended between our own inner life and the inner life of the collective human experience gives us invaluable insight and intrinsic empathy of how others also fit into this wider word.
We begin to recognize ourselves. We begin to recognize each other. The lines become blurred and our connection clarified.
Theatre. Matters.
How many times do we experience for ourselves or witness someone else being overwhelmed by emotions that are deemed “out of place” “unacceptable” “disruptive” ? These waves of emotion will always remain, under the surface, denied, shamed, rippling through different currents of illness, stress or mental anguish. What can we do as a society to help these authentic human emotions felt by all yet expressed through the individual move through us safely?
Welcomed. Held. Released.
