Meet LIRIS ROBLES, performing on the Community Stage @ Central Ave for the Downtown Alameda Art & Wine Faire this Sunday 3:10-4:00.

Hey there! My name is Liris Robles. I’m an indie/folk singer-songwriter from Alameda! I play many instruments, but you’ll usually find me performing with my trusty acoustic guitar!

1️⃣ Who is an artist that really had an impact on your music?

I’m inspired by so much & so many! Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Iris DeMent, and Adrinne Lenker, to name a few! Although the most impactful person by far has got to be my dad. He taught me to play the drums when I was six years old and passed down a deep love for music.

2️⃣ How’d you get your start performing?

I’ve been performing in one way or another since I was about six or seven. If I had to choose a beginning… I’d say busking and open mics are where I started really performing my music.

3️⃣ Talk a bit about one of your most memorable performances

I just recently put on my own album release House Concert, and it was absolutely a night to remember. My dad and I built a stage in my tiny living room, and we stuffed it full of wonderful people, instruments, lights, food, and MUSIC.

4️⃣ What’s one piece of advice you offer to folks just starting out performing music?

Busking and open mics are great places to start! Connect with other musicians! Practice what it feels like to play in front of an audience. Most importantly though, don’t forget why you started playing music in the first place. Don’t forget to play for yourself!! There’s a David Bowie quote that says it better… haha!

5️⃣ Where can people find you after Art & Wine? Anything new you want to promote?

I just released my very first album DREAMSTORM, out now on all streaming platforms!! You can keep up with more performances & new music I’m writing/releasing by followin’ my Instagram: Thanks for reading! Hope to see some of you at the Faire!

🎶 Get to know a local artist in 5 questions!

Meet Bay Station, with Deborah Crooks and Kwame Copeland, an original folk/rock/Americana project formed around 2013. Deborah plays rhythm guitar and sings and Kwame plays rhythm and lead guitar, harmonica and sings.

Bay Station will be playing the Community stage @ Central Ave July 26 12:05 - 12:55.

1️⃣ Who is an artist that really had an impact on your music?

DC: Seeing Shawn Colvin live decades ago made me want to write songs; likewise hearing Lucinda Williams Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.

KC: My dad played guitar and sang and taught me to play early. Bob Dylan was a big influence early on.

We're both big Tom Petty fans.

2️⃣ How’d you get your start performing?

KC: I've been playing in bands since high school in Laramie, Wyoming and moved out to SF with one of my first bands when I was 19 and have pretty much been playing out in some form since.

DC: I started writing my own songs and playing open mic in SF about 20 years ago. We started writing together in 2013 and started performing and recording as Bay Station shortly after.

3️⃣ Talk a bit about one of your most memorable performances?

We always love playing the Golden Gate Bandshell because it's an iconic stage overlooking the music concourse. We did a cross-country tour in 2016, playing every kind of gig imaginable — from cafes to clubs, hotels to radio stations — which was also pretty memorable!

4️⃣ What’s one piece of advice you offer to folks just starting out performing music?

Play open mics. You'll meet your people, be inspired, get better in a low-key environment and hone your chops.

5️⃣ Where can people find you after Art & Wine?

We'll be at the Palo Alto Art Festival on August 21 and Down Home Music Store on August 29. Find our performance calendar and sign up for our mailing list at our site https://baystationband.com/

You can find our recorded music on all the streaming platforms as well as Bandcamp: https://baystationband.bandcamp.com/
