Finishing milk paint samples with LED hard wax oil from .us and our house made soft wax to give our customers options for finishing some of the more traditional furniture we make. The hard wax oil preserves the color and protects from wear, and the soft wax preserves the color but allows the wear to occur while also developing the patina that is popular with antiques and reproductions.

There’s something extremely satisfying about making your own hand tools. We picked up this marking knife kit from .toolworks and used some leopard wood scraps for the handle, then finished it with our homemade soft wax oil.

It Happens In A Flash

No matter your experience level, kickback is always a risk. Especially if you have underlying issues with grip and control like I do. It’s also why I always stand to the left of the blade, so luckily the only damage was a gouge in the piece I was ripping and a nice dent in my shop door. Y’all stay safe out there!

Mastering dovetails is about repetition not perfection. Learning techniques that best suite you along through trial and error will help you develop muscle memory. All of which will eventually lead to effortlessly perfect dovetails. And as a bonus, mastering dovetails will greatly increase your overall hand tool skills. These are the first dovetails I’ve cut (after a few practice cuts) in almost 15 years. I was amazed at how fast it all came back. The hardest part was tweaking the techniques to compensate for my dexterity issues. And I only cut myself 3 times…
