Subject: SAVE THE DATE: SAVE A LIFE The African American WELLNESS Walk- Saturday August 31st
Great Morning Everyone,
The momentum is building as we continue to plan for the Warren & Youngstown African American Male Wellness 5 mile Walk/Run! I am sharing information that I hope you will share and distribute. This event honors the memory and legacy of a dear friend Myke Clarett. However , I would be remised if we did not acknowledge the community loss of great men like Kevin Jackson, who was part of our forming group and Claude Bentley Sr, whose son Jonathan, serves on our committee.. We intend to honor these persons and others at our Reception to be held August 30th in Warren. Invited guest speaker is Youngstown native Omarosa whose soul mate Michael Clarke Duncan also passed suddenly.
What do we need? Glad you asked-
1. RESOURCES (in-kind and financial donations are imperative to a quality event! I have attached a contribution form and hope you and your organization will consider investing in this work! ALL resources are directed SOLEY to the event! This is an expensive undertaking, but it is far better than the expense of an undertaker burying our men due to preventable/treatable health care issue! NO ONE is being compensated for services which allows us procure needed supplies and equipment. We are indebted to the medical professionals- doctors and nurses- who are sharing their talents freely!
2. Volunteers- human power is critical to insuring the event is executed in an efficient manner. Please encourage others to join us and offer assistance as able. I have had several elders indicate that while they cannot walk, they are willing to serve in a volunteer capacity! We have plenty of opportunities to serve. We need set up and break down crews. We will gather as early as 5am on August 31 and expect to be finished and done by 2pm! If you or an organization desires to be a volunteer, please let me know!
3. Participants- please encourage men of this valley to attend and participate! Challenge and create walking teams from your club, organization, church or fraternity to Walk for Life! I am providing a sign up for teams, Would love for groups such as our frats to boldly wear your colors and let the community know we are walking (not marching) for a tangible purpose! We are prepared to accommodate more than 1000 men in this valley. With screenings and information that is life empowering!
