Sharing my recent post I put on Instagram.
After a long break and some color inspiration from one of pieces. I have a version colored. I can see room for improvement, biggest hurddle for me is finding the right colors.
Colored on the in and .
Thought I give an update on the progress of my current project. You can read more about it on my mo-fi page here: https://ko-fi.com/post/Progress-for-On-To-the-Unkown-W7W11NMPF
When I started this I was planning to do it all in Adobe Fresco, but Photoshop for the iPad was released and I couldn't help myself from going between both apps.
I am continuing my adventure in digital painting, the image that will be accompanying me is a sketch I did for titled "To the Unknown?"
I will post details about the journey at my blog: https://donpavlikart.com/?p=258 and on my Ko-Fi page: https://ko-fi.com/donpavlikart.
Every Wednesday, I will provide an update here on Instagram, and more frequent updates will be on my Ko-Fi page.
My progress shot for today is the start of the digital inking in using the vector brush.
To the Unknown? A print that presents Kid Disco with the choice to go forward or back.
Initial Sketch In the effort of continuing to learn and practice my digital painting, I am taking the above sketch and turning it into a digital print. I do not know how long this will take, but I …
Thought I share another , this one of !
I am happy to share these . Another set of that my daughter and I did together.
An the day keeps the doctor away, at least that is how I remember the old wives' tale for eating more . I am not sure I would eat these apples, and some look like it they would send me to the doctor!
I have been silent for a few days, just finding it hard to come up with something to say each day. But I can't let that stop me from sharing!
How many of you read this content vs just view my sketches? I am curious to see, let me know in a comment below.
A couple of heads composed of multiple circles, I used 's sketchbook post for reference. I tried to work on some line weight with these, all having the light from the top right.
What reference do you use for improving your cartoon heads?
, wonderful orange! This was another choice that had shown me that there is so much you can do to a circle and have it say .
Today I have some to share with you. This one gave me the challenge as to how I can put nine on a single sheet of paper. I was surprised by the large variety that exists out there on the internet.
Hope you all have a good day, I am letting my mouth rest from a recent dentist appointment, and making sure my tongue doesn't hang out like one of the giraffes I have here. :)
I encourage you to versions of something as it has helped me with my sketches.
I thought I share a recent I had created for .
Creating this card was fun and involved the right amount of research, primarily since I had never heard of Invader Zim! I know what is wrong with me! I spent time doing some image searches, as well as watching on to get the character.
I sketched out three roughs with pen on some paper and then used my lightbox to transfer this sketch to the card. There are two marker brands I used for and the for the background.
I will be creating a few more of these, and they will be free to a good home for a limited time.
We are continuing with with . There is a variety of cartoon out there, and according to Google Images, is a ! That age-old question of what kind of animal he is finally answered. :)
I have the print for my taco loving merman printed! He will be posted in my store in Etsy in the next day or so.
I hope your weekend is going well, and you take up the draw nine challenge.
I thought this quote was fitting, encouraging us all to think and create every day.
I hope you have a filled weekend, with wonderful thinks.
I previously mentioned that my oldest daughter and I started to draw together, doing a google search for something and then drawing nine of them. Here you can see the random sets that we chose to sketch.
A challenge for you, go out and search Google images for some TVs, and draw nine of them. You can share it on IG with the tag and tag me. The goal is to have fun and build up your visual library, so don't stress over it and take your time.
A couple of heads composed of multiple circles, I used 's sketchbook post for reference. I had not focused on line weight, but more on how to create some unique heads.
What reference do you use for improving your cartoon heads?
Ah, the . After not drawing any heads for several months, I attempted to see what I retained.
This morning I worked on putting my loving in the 11x14 layout and sent it off to my printer. I didn't expect to see anything about it today, but on my way to work, I got a call that the proof was ready to view! The proof is approved and will soon find its place in my shop. It looks great printed and has inspired me to do another full print with a background in it.
Have you had a pleasant thing happen to you today?
This little gets his spotlight today, ever curious and ready to keep moving forward. Just like this little goat, my children share the same curiosity and adventurous attitudes.
One such adventure my oldest daughter has taken is to an evening drawing challenge with me. The challenge is to think of a subject, and then we search Google for a cartoon version of that item. For example, with the subject of apple, we would search Google Images for apple. Then we alternate picking one at a time and draw a page full of them. We can roughly get about nine images on one page. When the page is full, we choose a new subject and repeat it.
Are there any adventures you have taken recently?
I am starting this week by using the bullet journal template in hopes that I can keep better track of my projects. This week the goal is to finish the short story outline for "Jared meets Zeek." I have some ideas put down, but overall it lacks something, and I am hoping the outline will help me get it done.
Today's picture is of two cartoon cats, not sure what reference I used for these, but they are a cute way to start the week visually, full of curiosity and wonder!
How is your week starting?
Doing my best every day is a quality that my parents had worked hard to put in me with everything I do. So when I accepted 's request for trading cards, I sought out to do my best.
What about you, qualities are you grateful for from your family/friends for putting in you that drives your art?
I am slowly getting back into the swing of things with work and side projects. While that goes on, the worker Bizzy here can help show you around :)
I hope your ramp up in the new year is going well.
So last night was quackers! My family and I all went to sleep early, I know we are not the party people who watch the ball drop for the new year, and we were rudely awoken by loud noises through out the neighborhood. I am hoping they were fireworks as I do not want to think otherwise.
My daughters didn’t wake up and scream, but they were both in their beds with looks on their faces not knowing what had gone on. This is a time where I wished those who felt like making their loud noises had done it somewhere else, so that others could sleep in the new year peacefully.
I will be posting more sketches from my , while I work on one of my short stories to and plan it out for illustration.
How did you night go?
Nothing special to say today, just posting a from my of a . This is another one of 's tutorials, I need to draw these more than once to build up my visual library.
Have a safe night tonight.
After a few modifications and final tweaks, the loving is done! This was better than last year with two pieces completed and lessons learned from . You may notice that the app I have this finished in is no but , and that is due to lack of features available in Adobe Fresco.
I am very grateful for the support and help my wife has given me through getting this merman complete in his underwater environment. She suggested a few of the color changes and the addition of some whales in the background, which I find make the image complete.
So my final thought on Adobe Fresco is, too little too late. There are many more digital art tools out there, and this version of their tool would have been great to release a year or two ago. Although it does do a good job combining vectors and live brushes with pixel brushwork, the lack of other basic features makes it more frustrating to use. I hope there future updates come soon and add many more features that will make it comparable to Procreate and other digital art apps, as I do like it.
After seeing ’s commission of Mrs. Brisby I decided to give it a shot. It didn’t turn out as good as his, but was an interesting trial to something I would not think of trying to do.
This is an interesting from Mark Twain, at least the internet says it is from him. I believe this boils down to what sanity is. I find sanity is in happiness, so the quote is more of one for humor than of reality.
Today we have some cute little for today's . Work on my piece is still undergoing; I have been working on the underwater environment with more details and adding some blur. I am delighted with the amount of depth that you can get with some blur and lowering the visibility of background elements.
I am looking to have an updated picture for you either Sunday or Monday, and then this year's digicember will be over.
I have been getting some ideas for the island, and working on a short story for the adventures of Zeek and Jared that take place there. I hope to finish the first story in January and start drawing it shortly after so I can start posting it.
Do you have any project plans set up for next year, what is your first step that you are going to take in January?
We have another practice inspired by 's tutorials . There is something about the way we draw cartoon ears that itching in the back of my mind, it feels like I am having the animal always listening to something in front of it. I think I will have to take this itch and have it change the way I draw the ears.
What say you, do you have any thoughts on how cartoon animals should be drawn?
