Our Story
As a recent recipient of a John S. and James L. Knight Arts Challenge grant, Akron Art Prize was transformed into the High Arts Festival and added music, literary art and film categories in addition to visual art. This year's event runs Sept. 14-Oct. 6 with a finale reception and awards presentation at an outdoor stage in the Historic Arts District, behind Blu Jazz+
The High Arts Festival app is available for free from the Google Play Store/iTunes Store. Through the app, you can register to vote, explore all of the entries and vote on your favorite art, film, literary submission and music throughout the event.
The High Arts Festival will elevate the artistic excellence of the arts community through peer-to-peer assessment, connect new audiences to local art and individual artists, and increase the awareness of the vibrant artistic hub that exists in downtown Akron.
The event continues to be sponsored by Peg’s Foundation and coordinated by Downtown Akron Partnership. Additional support is provided by Ohio Arts Council.

So many thanks to Downtown Akron Partnership, High Arts Festival and Kelli Fetter for a wonderful time in Chicago!!! We learned so much about the art and history of the city, we left inspired and proud to be recognized as artists. It was also refreshing to spend time with other Akron peeps who truly "get it." 🏙❤️🌆 #highartsfestival #chicago #theangiehazeproject #akron #ohio #akronohio #akronown #330 #akronmusic #akronmusicscene #ohiomusicscene #akronnightlife #livemusic #music #musician #musicianlife #singersongwriter #folk #blues #romani #tourlife #musiclife #grandprize

Saturday at 5 pm, Ohio Poet Laureate Dave Lucas will read at Uncorked Wine Bar as part of this year's High Arts Festival Literary Readings in Akron. He will be followed by Columbus poet Rikki Santer, whose new full-length poetry collection - Dodge, Tuck, Roll - will be released by Crisis Chronicles Press that very day.
