HERSHMAN SWEEPS ALL STARS AS BOOGIEMAN SWEEPS INVITATIONAL

WORLD RECORDS FALL ON THE HMS AMERICAN KING TRACK

The 2019 RETRO All Stars and Invitational Races were held at HMS in Bellevue, Oh on Feb 23, 2019. A small but competitive field provided some close racing and track records fell on the World's Fastest American King!!!

Can Am Qualifying........ the track/world record stood at 4.372 and with the track being recently redone by Gary Gerding, the question was how much faster was it? All doubts were removed when Ron Hershman went 4.242 for TQ and the New World Record. Eric Shirey was 2nd quick at 4.415.

F1 Qualifying...... the track/world record stood at 4.535 and it was Eric Shirey TQ and New World Record @ 4.504 with Ron Hershman 2nd quick at 4.601.

Can Am B Main..... what a race!!!! Al Rutti got out to a early lead over Bob Appelle, Bob Foster, Rob Lehmann, Johnnie Detroit and Chris Earnhart. by the 6th heat, Al, Bob and Bob were all tied on the same lap. Bob A had the upper hand after 7 heats leading Al by half a lap and in the final heat Al ran down and passed Bob A for the lead. At the end it was Al Rutti 270.08, Bob Appelle 270.03, Bob Foster 265, Johnnie D 255, Rob Lehmann 252 and Chris Earnhart 247.08. Fastest Race Lap Al Rutti 4.700.

Can Am A Main..... Ron Hershman got out front early over Cap Henry and Eric Shirey. After two heats, Eric was in the pits with troubles while Boogieman & Rich Attee were chasing Ron and Cap. Ron pulled away as the race wore on and at the finish it was Ron Hershman Winning with 314 NTR, Cap Henry 307, Boogieman 288, Rich Attee 286 and Eric Shirey 200. Fastest Race Lap Ron Hershman 4.309.

F1 B MAIN..... The Boogieman Jerry Wyant was on fire and ran away from the field in this race Winning with 274 followed by Rob Lehmann 266, Johnnie Detroit 258, Bob Foster 238 DNF and Chris Earnhart 231. Fastest Race Lap 4.744

F1 A Main..... Ron Hershman, Cap Henry and Eric Shirey duked it out early with Ron pulling away as the race wore on. At the end it was Ron Hershman Winning with 291 followed by Cap Henry 285, Eric Shirey 281, Al Rutti 277, Rich Attee 267 and Bob Appelle 260. Fastest Race Lap Eric Shirey 4.593.

Saturday May 5, Can Am FK and F1 FK RETRO Rules

Can Am-FK and F1-FK will run Full RETRO rules with the following exceptions in ALL classes:

Motors: PS-4002FK, PS-4007 Scorpion, PS-4002 Puppy Dog.

Gearing: 8 tooth 48 pitch pinions only.

Saturday tech will open at 9:30 AM Qualifying to follow for Can Am and F1.

Entry Fees: $ 20.00 for the first class, $ 15.00 for the second class.

Can Am FK & F1/Indy FK Race Format:

Can Am and F1 Drivers will be split into All Stars and Invitational classifications. Refer to All Stars Driver List for classification. Drivers on the All Stars List run in All Stars. Unlisted Drivers run in Invitational.

All entrants will qualify for one minute. Fastest Lap Qualifying.

Entrants are "seeded" into mains based on their fastest time.

One and Done Format. Overall lap total determines overall finish.

The Invitational class Winners will have the option to join the All Stars in the class they won in Invitational.

2018 RETRO ALL STARS AND INVITATIONAL RACES @ FASTRA###

HERSHMAN & MERRIMAN WIN ALL STAR RACES WHILE PACE AND EARNHART WIN INVITATIONAL RACES

Fastra### in Fremont, Ohio was the site of the 5 edition of the annual RETRO All Star and Invitational races on May 4-5, 2018. It was a "Fiesta" of an event with Burritos and Mexican affair present.

Friday started off with all day practice and a RETRO Stock Car race on the Fastra### Hi Speed Oval track. Seven entries for good and mostly clean fast race for the 4.5 retro stock cars.

Ron Hershman was the early leader and led through heat 5 when Jeremy Wyant got into a slim lead over Ron and fast charging James Merriman. At the end it was James Merriman winning his first ever oval race with 409 laps followed by Ron Hershman 407, Jeremy Wyant 395, Craig Scharfenberg 393, Greg Krumnow 375, Larry Diesenroth 371 and Chris Earnhart 93 DNF. Fastest Race Lap James Merriman 2.179.

Saturday the racing and attention switched to the "Bull Ring" American Royal track for both Can Am and F1 races.

In Can Am Invitational Qualifying it was Jim Pace Jr setting the pace with a fast time of 3.525 with Chris Earnhart 2nd quick @ 3.713.

Can Am All Stars Qualifying it was Ron Hershman setting the New Track Record with a run of 3.193 with Eric Shirey 2nd fast @ 3.232.

Can Am Invitational Main....... Jim Pace Jr was the class of the field and dominated the race Winning with 364 laps followed by Chris Earnhart 347, Johnny Detroit 330, Pops Myers 319 and "Rookie" Rick Myers 297. Fastest Race Lap Jim Pace Jr 3.534.

With Jim winning the Invitational race, that allowed him to race in the All Stars field and he joined in the field of All Stars.

Can Am All Stars B Main..... this by far was the "race of the day" with Rich Attee on fire in the early going and leading Chris Barnes and Jim Pace Jr. By the 6th heat it was becoming a three man race with Jim in the lead followed very closely by Rich and Chris. Jim was going to finish on white and red while Rich and Chris was on the faster lanes. Chris lost his chance with a pit stop to fix a burnt braid and Rich came up a few seconds late. Jim holds off the challengers and Wins with 375 laps with Chris Barnes 2nd 374.06 and Rich Attee 374.03. Fourth was Dan Myers 352 with 5th Craig Scharfenberg 186 DNF. Fastest Race Lap Chris Barnes 3.445.

Can Am All Stars A Main....... Like the Energizer Bunny, Ron Hershman kept going and going away from the field and into the Winners circle with a New Track Record lap total of 414 laps. In 2nd it was Eric Shirey 394 followed by Bud Bartos 381, Gil Pataky 370 and James Merriman 368. Fastest Race Lap Eric Shirey 3.253.

F1 Invitational Qualifying....... Chris Earnhart on the pole running a 3.831 with Johnny Detroit 2nd quick @ 3.984.

F1 All Stars Qualifying...... Ron Hershman snagged his 2nd TQ of the day running 3.484 to Eric Shirey's 3.487.

With 8 F1 All Stars and 4 Invitational drivers, the races were split..... 6 fastest All Stars and 7th and 8th fastest All Stars ran with the Invitational drivers. Steve Peppler won the race overall with 359 and Dan Myers was 2nd overall with 338.02 laps. Their totals are in the overall F1 All Stars results.

F1 Invitational Main...... Johnny Detroit got our front early and was being chased by Chris Earnhart and the duo of Grandpa Pops Myers and Grandson Rick Myers...... by the halfway point Chris got it in high gear and checked out to win with 338 laps with Pops 2nd 315, Rick Myers 300 and Johnny Detroit lacking traction with 283. Fastest Race Lap Chris Earnhart 3.794.

F1 All Stars Main........ the six fastest F1's did battle. Ron Hershman and Chris Barnes shared the lead in the first heat while Ron got out front after two. Eric Shirey and James Merriman was closing in on Ron and by the halfway point James was tied with Ron and Eric a couple back. in heat 5 James out front over Ron, Eric and a fast closing Craig Scharfenberg. At the end it was James Merriman Winning with 381 followed by Ron Hershman 372, Craig Scharfenberg 368, Eric Shirey 366, Chris Barnes 361 and Rich Attee 357. Fastest Race Lap N/A due to a rider.

AMERICAN KING TRACK RECORDS TUMBLE AS CUSTER & BARTOS ALL STAR WINNERS AS PICIONE & PATAKY WIN IN INVITATIONAL

The fourth edition of the RETRO All Stars and Invitational Races was held at HMS in Bellevue, Ohio on April 8, 2017. All racing was held on the HMS World Record Holding American King track. Many records were broken as several of the Fastest Retro racers and builders in the country were on hand with a wide range of representation of MFG's, making the HMS American King the fastest in the USA for Retro Can Am and F1 cars.

Invitational Can Am Qualifying....... Gil Pataky was the early pacesetter with a fast 4.668 while Marc Picione and Bob Dempsey were close both running identical 4.672 laps, but it was Gary Beale hooking up his controller and taking the pole position with a fast 4.631 lap.

All Stars Can Am Qualifying........ the track record stood at 4.410 and while there were a few 4.4's being ran in practice was some "sandbagging" or going as fast as they could. Ross Scharf was the first to run in the 4.5's with a 4.531, then Greg Fox came up and ran a 4.509 until Eric Shirey was the first to run in the 4.4's with a 4.420. Willy Custer came up and ran a New World Record time of 4.376 holding off 2nd quick Ron Hershman @ 4.416.

F1 Invitational Qualifying....... Gil Pataky came up first and ran a 4.715 and that was good enough for the pole and held off Craig Scharfenberg at 4.724.

F1 All Stars Qualifying...... several drivers were flirting with the track record of 4.616 in practice. Eric Shirey was the first in the "4.5 club" with a 4.586, then Bud Bartos with a 4.577, then Willy Custer @ 4.539. Ron Hershman was the last to qualify and became the fastest with a run of 4.535 to take the pole and set the New World Record for F1 cars on an American King track.

Invitational Can Am B Qualifying Main....... Jeff Middaugh had a very bad qualifying experience when his motor wouldn't go and wound up with no time and in the B qualifying main. Jeff made up for his qualifying troubles by dominating and leading flag to flag to WIN the B qualifier with 280 laps. Bob Manzitti was 2nd with 267 followed by Big Bob Appelle 263, Frankie Schaffier 262.05, Kit Henry 262.00, Pops Myers 256 and Lori Schaffier 219. Fastest Race Lap Jeff Middaugh 4.729.

Invitational Can Am A Qualifying Main...... Marc Picione was fast and ran out front the entire distance of the race to win with 283 followed by Gil Pataky 279, Gary Beale 273, Tim Burton 268, Lonnie Baatz 266, Craig Scharfenberg 264, Johnny Detroit 251 and Bob Dempsey 148 DNF. Fastest Race Lap Marc Picione 4.682.

Invitational Can Am Main Event......... B Qualifier Winner Jeff Middaugh got out front early leading heats 1 through 7 while Marc Picione, Craig Scharfenberg and Gil Pataky battled between themselves and within striking distance of the win throughout the race. While these these four were up front the entire distance, the other drivers..... Gary Beale, Bob Manzitti, Lonnie Baatz and Tim Burton were locked in a battle for 5th through 8th honors. Going into the final heat, Jeff held a 2 laps advantage but was finishing on red while Marc was finishing on orange. Jeff ran strong on red but it was Marc Picione taking the lead in the last 30 seconds of the race to WIN with 286 laps followed by Jeff Middaugh 285.18, Craig Scharfenberg 285.07, Gil Pataky 284, Gary Beale 276, Bob Manzitti 273.17, Lonnie Baatz 273.03 and Tim Burton 265. Fastest Race Lap Marc Picione 4.6614.

Cap Henry got out front early and held off a hard charging James Merriman the entire distance to WIN with 297 laps followed by James 295, Al Rutti 288.15, Dave Simerka 288.08, Tim Baatz 279, Bob Foster 278 and Rich Attee 245. Fastest Race Lap James Merriman 4.547.

All Stars Can Am A Qualifying Main.... Ron Hershman led early until his motor faded and Willy Custer jumped into the lead and was in his own zone WINNING with 303 followed by Eric Shirey 296, Ross Scharf 290.13, Bud Bartos 290.10, Greg Fox 289, Ron Hershman 287, Chris Barnes 284 and Joe Liguori 278. Fastest Race Lap Willy Custer 4.476.

Invitational F1 Main Event......... Gil Pataky and Jeff Middaugh were tied after two heats and Gil started pullling away from the field in the 3rd heat. By the end of the race, Craig Scharfenberg steadily picked off Jeff and Lonnie Baatz for 2nd. Gil Pataky WINS with 277 followed by Craig Scharfenberg 274, Jeff Middaugh 267, Lonnie Baatz 266, Tim Burton 263, Frankie Schaffier 257, Kit Henry 244 and Lori Schaffier 209. Ron Hershman led until his sit out with Eric Shirey taking the lead until his sit out and Al Rutti led for a long time until his sit out. Going into the final heat, Bud Bartos was the leader and held on to WIn with 293 followed by Willy Custer 291, Eric Shirey 288, Ron Hershman 287, Al Rutti 281, Bob Foster 276, Dave Simerka 190 DNF, Chris Barnes 147 DNF and James Merriman 99 DNF. Fastest Race Lap Ron Hershman 4.661.
