Jessie Raynor, director of the Akron Area Arts Alliance (AAAA), will retire by June 30. “I have accomplished what I wanted to accomplish with AAAA, and I’m very proud of its growth and accomplishments,” said Raynor, who has been director for 12 years.

SUMMIT ARTSPACE HOLIDAY ARTWALK FAIR!

Summit Artspace welcomes additional artists to the December Downtown Artwalk and Sunday Sampler on December 3 & 4th. Joining the 5 studio artists on the 3rd floor will be 9 artists from NE Ohio with unique pieces of art for show and sale. Visitors will find a wide variety of items including fabric art, metal & stone sculpture, paintings, jewelry, prints, wood carvings, ceramics and mixed media. Admission is FREE!

The Summit Artspace Gallery’s dynamic “Kaleidoscope 2011” exhibition will be open on the 1st floor, and the Box Gallery’s popular show “Paper or Plastic: Lowbrow Toy & Art Show” will be open on the 3rd floor. Hours are: Saturday, December 3 from 12 – 9 pm, and Sunday December 4 from 12 – 5 pm, 140 East Market St., Akron, OH.

Partial list of Artwalk artists includes: Connie Bloom, Terry Klausman, Carolyn Lewis, Cari Miller, Katina Pastis Radwanski, Francisco D’Auria, Norburt Lowder, Joan Colbert, Rosemary & Marjorie Burkhart, David Repicky and Karen Koch.

Who knew? According to Americans for the Arts, as shared by the GAR Foundation with attendees at yesterday's AAAA luncheon, Summit County is home to 1,314 arts-related businesses employing 5,930 people (Jan. 2011) - conservatively! Membership is open to not-for-profit organizations in Summit, Portage and Medina Counties that have as a primary part of their mission promoting arts and culture. Artists and individuals who support AAAA's mission are also welcomed as members. Current membership totals 49 organizations and 69 artists and art suppporters.
